Epson Tm-T88IV USB Crashing

Hi We have sold and used RMS for a couple of years, and been selling Epson TM-T88 receipt printers for even longer. However in the past couple of months, we have experienced a few sites where their till crashes windows. On checking the dump files, it refers to TMUSBXP.sys, which is the Epson OPOS driver file. (dump example at the bottom). The tills are HP DC7800 SFF with 2GB RAM. The OPOS drivers have been updated to EPSON OPOS ADK Version2.62E and it still happens.

Every time we think we have identified the cause (PC image, anti virus software, old OPOS driver) it continues to happen. At the moment, we are changing the receipt printers back to parallel.

If anyone has experienced something feel free to post up any other suggestions. Alternately, if someone knows how to get in contact with Epson to discuss their drivers, that would be nice to know as well.

Dump file.

One other alternative is to try the Windows drivers. I have been using them for several years with the TM88's. I have no issues. The only thing is that you have to change receipt templates from the default fonts (true type?) to printer built-in fonts to eliminate slow printing.

Epson receipt printer drivers are available at epsonexpert.com. You will have to join/make a new account to login to the site, but it can be done on-the spot.

Craig,

I found the font names on a posting about slow printing, and I usually save these things, but for some reason cannot find it here at work. Here is what I have setup on mine, set in Database | Registers | Receipt Formats | Properties default font: FONTA11 small font: FONTB11 large font: FONTB21

I am guessing the fonts are built-in fonts, so there is probably a list of the available ones in the printer documentation or on Epson's website. I am not sure about this info, because I setup the ones you see above and was happy with it, so I never went any further. There is NO speed issue with these fonts, the receipt printing is very fast, especially with the newer 88 USB printers. I do not use a logo, so I do not know about any possible issues with that.

Your cut settings are in the Windows printer properties dialogs. It took a little playing to find everything the first time, but have never had an issue since. Drivers come from the EpsonExpert site. If you try it and have any questions, you know where to find me!

hi thanks for the replies. Our test site hasnt crashed for over a week since we disabled the sleep/power options in the USB device driver settings. Although a hunch I suspect the issue may relate to the PC more than OPOS or the receipt printer as neither the drivers or the printers have changed for about 2 years.
