Drawer does not pop for open/close

Howdy,

My cash drawer no longer opens when I try to count open/close It opens fine for all other transactions. we are currently using a no sale to open it when we count the drawer.

I recently installed new reciept templates along with TPI payment software It is a star TSP700 printer using the windows raster driver. The OPOs drivers were not opening the drawer at all

any thoughts?

thanks

When running RMS and using OPOS with the drawers and receipt printers, our reseller told us that OPOS and Windows drivers sometimes do not work well together. They recommended running one or the other, not both.

Sometimes if choosing to run only OPOS, and OPOS devices are not working, fail a health check, or intermittently work, it can be due 2 main things to check right away:

-1- PCs set up with network printers and other peripherals may have minor port conflicts.

-even a small conflict in any Com/LPT1, 2, etc etc port setting in Windows can cause issues and OPOS to not function 100%.

OPOS works well when other Windows print drivers are removed, port mappings are removed, and OPOS is reinstalled clean, and it works from the begining of the reinstall, and OPOS is able to take control of the devices immedialty, without any "orphaned item" errors.

-2-The version of the OPOS driver(s) is not right for the version, type, manufacturer, and or firmware of hardware you are trying to control.

We ran Epson TM88P2 receipt printers, and some newer TM800's-(everyone has seen these and set them up at least once in retail), and cash drawers, and all the newest OPOS software provided by our reseller, MSFT, and Epson, did not work 100%. It worked up to the point of adding in the device - but it would never control the hardware, like actually pop a drawer or print. Never passed a health check.

Everyone was stumped, I happened to find old Epson OPOS drivres designed for the printers specifically, (parallel port specified) & for W95/98/W2K. (on the Epson Developers site-register and you can log in and download), and they worked like a charm.

Still in use today, and once in a while if the printing doesnt function on a workstation, a quick reinstall and device check gets it all going again.

This is a device/OPOS issue I t hink, rather than an RMS/Windows issue. But I cant see why it cant be made to mesh without conflicts.

It also happen because of Cash Drawer Adapter.Check wether your Adapter is getting enough signals OR not.

If you are using Windows Drivers for your Star printer, then the drawer is being opened on transactions by a setting in the print driver, or by a code embedded in your receipt template. Since no receipt prints on open/close, there is nothing to trigger a message to the drawer. open/close will pop a drawer when OPOS drivers are used, becasue RMS can send the open message to the drawer itself without invoking the printer (even though the drawer is still connect to the printer). OPOS vs. windows is pretty much an all or nothing choice. I wouldn't try to get the drawer to use OPOS if you want to use Windows for the printer...
