EPSON TM-T88IV & Cashdrawer

Hello, I need HELP!

I've had the Epson TM-T88IV since August 2007 running on RMS and OPOS and everything was running fine until this morning. My cashdrawer will not open anymore [unless I use the key to open it]. I don't know what's wrong with it and trying to fix it just made it worse because I've forgotten how to configure it. After trying to troubleshoot it, it worked again, but the POS frozed and I had to reboot. After rebooting, the cashdrawer won't open again.

How do I fix this problem? And more importantly, how do I re-configure the cashdrawer in the RMS Utilty?

What is the driver that I should use??

- SMS.OPOS.CashDrawer.Kc

- SMS.OPOS.CashDrawer.Hydrakc

- SMS.OPOS.CashDrawer2.Hydrakc

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It is likely that the solenoid that opens the cash drawer went bad. If nothing else changed that is the most likely cause of the problem. The drawer would still open with a key. If you have a 2nd cash drawer that is working, try swapping them. If the problem swaps too, it is a bad cash drawer, not the software settings.

Unfortunately, I don't have a second cash register to troubleshoot with.

Do you know how to reconfigure it? I need to try that first before I purchase a new cash drawer.

Thanks.

I would remove the MS RMS OPOS and use the Epson OPOS that will setup the CD and the Printer.

What Kind of Cash Drawer is it?

It's an MMF cashdrawer.

Don't I need to set up the cash drawer in the Epson OPOS and then in the RMS Utility? Just confirming.

You could download the epson OPOS and install it setup the printer and cashdrawer at same time, This is assuming the cash drawer is fired by the printer though. If not the drawer that you should choose is the first on on the list, MMF is usually a standard drawer and that is what the first on the list covers. Also if the drawer is not printer fired there is more to look for lets say its a Serial drawer, is there something conflicting with that serial port that is locking up the drawer? Is it USB and that USB HUB on your Mainboard has failed or maybe someone changed the settings on the USB port in the system and now its not working. not trying to blow things out but there are a lot of variables. Do you know if this is a printer fired drawer, Serial or USB?

The cash drawer is controlled through the printer. The printer has a serial port on LPT1. I currently do have the Epson OPOS installed on my computer. What I did when I first set this up was installed the Epson OPOS driver and then configured it on the RMS utility. It was working fine until this morning and I don't know what's wrong with it?

But I was trouble shooting and decided to delete the device name in the Epson OPOS and added a new one and I went and did the same thing in RMS utility. But now I don't know which driver to pick from the three I listed in my first post.

The weird thing is that my cash drawer is working again - just now. I haven't done anything to it. I'm sure it's going to stop opening again.

First thing I would do is clear up the OPOS items, Remove all from the MS OPOS and use the epson, what ever name you give the printer and the cashdrawer in the OPOS make sure you set them to the same in the register list setup.

Something to look at if its happening intermittent like that is either a loose or damaged cable, could be something as simple as the ccable from the printer to the cashdrawer. Did the little clip that holds the cable from the cash drawer to the printer get broken or something like that is it a loose connection.

Make sure that you dont have 2 opos items running for the cash drawer that could cause slowness in your system or even lockups fighting over control of the object. Get the software setup cleaned up and stick with the epson setup for printers and cashdrawers.(of course this is my opine)

If this doesnt help let me know.

Hi,

One of my customers had this problem with a MMf cash drawer and a TM- T88iv The problem was not the cash drawer but the printer. I swoped out the cashg drawer same problem. I reinstalled OPOS problem persisted and then I swoped the printer for another TM-T88iv and that fixed it.

This was just Yesterday

If you run the diagnostics on the printer it will start printing again.

Turn power switch off, Hold feed and turn printer back on while continuing to hold the feed button.

The diag's will print. Turn the printer off and back on w/o holding feed and it should start printing.
