Problem installing EPSON OPOS drivers

Hey,

I am having problems making the Epson OPOS drivers work properly on a POS machine with Micros POS installed on it. The Micros OPOS drivers are already installed on the machine.

The printer we are using is a Epson TM-T88II Receipt thermal printer. After installing the OPOS drivers, I configure the printer giving it a logical name. Then I open the CheckHealth utility to monitor the health of the printer. On selecting the Logical Name of the printer just configured and clicking on CheckHealth, i get the following error: Microsoft.PointOfService.PosControlException. Error Code: Illegal(106) ErrorCodeExtended: 0 Message: Failed the native method processing. Target: Void Claim(Int32)

What might be the problem? Please help as I have been stuck with for quite some time now. Any pointers would be most welcome.

Is that really MICROS, or Microsoft?

If you are talking about Microsoft POS, you must install the Epson OPOS drivers with the "Common Control Objects" - not the "Epson Control Object". If you aren't sure which you installed, uninstall the Epson OPOS and reinstall.

I'm not sure I'm exactly following what you are doing, but it sounds like you are trying to test the printer within the EPSON OPOS utility. You should always be able to get a good test here - common control objects or not... Make sure that you have NOT installed the Epson Windows driver as it will interfere with OPOS. Also make sure that no Windows printers are configured to use the same port as the tm-t88 - even if they are not physically connected to the computer. For example, MS Office will create a virtual printer called something like "MS Office Document writer" that thinks it uses either COM1 or LPT1. If you have one of these virtual printers setup to use the port that the receipt printer is using, OPOS will have problems.

If the above items don't resolve the problem, check the printer firmware for OPOS version compatibility - you can find instructions at

What version of Micros are you using?, and are you IDN's setup correctly

I am basically not pretty aware of the Micros environment or the IDNs. I am a poor application developer whose application prints to the Epson printer using OPOS drivers. Trying to install OPOS drivers brought to my notice this error and now we are even thinking of dropping the idea of using OPOS. The reason I mentioned Micros OPOS was that I thought that maybe these OPOS drivers are conflicting with the Epson OPOS drivers.

I will check if the Mircosoft Image Writer is installed on the machine or not. I will check if the Windows Printers are not somehow sharing ports on the machine.

Basically, what does this error mean?

are you trying to get the epson printer to work with Microsoft Windows or MICROS POS system??

Glenn,

I think he's talking about Micros. Micros makes POS systems, mostly for restuarants. I think the problem is that you're using a modified T88 (though I'm not 100% sure that the Micros printers are modded).

See if you can get your hands on a T88III (version 3) before you scrap your project. These are supported, and I have a setup that works with this printer. If you need a printer, I can sell you one for $250.

The Epson drivers will be used to talk to Microsoft Windows. A .NET Windows application talks and prints to the Epson printer using the OPOS drivers. As I mentioned previously, I have talked about the Micros setup just coz the Micros OPOS drivers have been installed on the machine and I thought that it might be conflicting with the setup of Epson OPOS drivers.
