EPSON TM88III PRINTER PROBLEM

I PURCHASED A EPSON TM THERMAL RECEIPT PRINTER WITH SERIAL PORT. AFTER WORKING WITH MY PARTNER AND EPSON WE DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WITH MY PRINTER WAS PROBABLY THE SERIAL PORT. THE TEST PRINT ON THE PRINTER WAS SUPER FAST. WHEN PRINTING THE ACTUAL RECEIPT IT TOOK ALMOST A MINUTE TO PRINT THE RECEIPT. WAS USING WINDOWS DRIVER AND I BELIEVE WE EVEN TRIED THE OPOS DRIVER.

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD SIMILIAR PROBLEMS WITH THE PRINTER?

I AM RETURNING THAT PRINTER AND AM ORDERING ONE WITH USB CONNECTION. HAS ANYONE HAD ANY PROBLEMS PRINTING RECEIPTS ON THIS ESPON WITH A USB PORT?

THANKS

Lisa, I would doubt that the problem is with your serial port, my experience is that the port is either good or bad, and not cause your printer to print slow. Microsoft recommends that you uninstall the Epson Windows driver and use the Epson OPOS driver that you can download from EpsonExpert.com. I have never had a problem with the Epson TM-T88III. As you configure the OPOS driver, remember to choose the Common Control Object, not the Epson Control Object. Also, does the printer print slow or just take an extended period of time before it starts to print? This could be a cash drawer issue. I had this issue and had to make a change in the Epson Cash Drawer OPOS settings, In the Device Specific Settings Radio Button, select the High Open Status Phase option.

Lisa,

The Epson Windows Printer Driver prints the receipt in graphics mode which is MUCH slower than standard text mode. This is why you shouldn't use the Windows driver. Also, your serial port speed setting (baud rate) could have something to do with it as well. If you have configured both the printer and port baud rates at something like 9600 bps, it will literally print 4 times slower than if you set it at

38,400 bps.

It is hard to say why your printer appears to be printing so slowly but I would guess that using OPOS would help solve the problem.

Replace the Epson with a star TSP-700usb use the raster drivers with windows and your good to go as fast or faster than the Epson. Or use the TSP-100usb and get fancy graphics printing.

Kinnard,

We've used the TM88iii/Serial sucessfully for years using the Generic Text Driver and have recently tried a USB which forces you to use the Epson Advanced Driver. USB performance is 10 fold slower than Serial and it's obviously the driver, do you have any idea how to resolve this?

I understand that I can continue using a Serial Port with the Generic Text Driver but it would be nice to have a USB solution.

TIA

Jeff
