Samsung SRP-350 OPOS issue

Apr 21, 2006 8 Replies

Hello,

I am currently trying to setup a customer's Samsung SRP-350 for use with Microsoft Point of Sale.

This question admitedly isn't exactly relating to POS but from the lack of support available from Bixolon or Samsung I really don't have a choice.

Basically the Samsung printer does not work with OPOS at all. I have tried four different printers (two did have older firmware) and two newer ones (one which was right out of the box). I have tried using the OPOS drivers available on the bixolon website, and an older version I found on CRS' website. Neither of these drivers helped me out. When I attempt to CheckHealth the samsung software gives me this error:

OPOSPrinter Open Error : [Error]

The printers themselves all work fine, I installed the Windows driver and did a few test prints (after which I uninstalled the driver). I know my settings and connections are correct because I can setup an Epson TM-88III (using the Epson OPOS drivers) and it works flawlessly. This leads me to believe that it is a simple issue of Samsung providing a driver that does not work.

Maybe I am just being a noob or overlooking something small but I have been over everything a million times and just cannot seem to figure it out.

I would appreciate any help you could offer me.

Thanks a lot,

Chandler

Chandler,

I don't do Epsons or Samsungs, but I seem to remember a post that the Samsung will emulate an Epson model. Look in the Samsung docs.

Don't remember if was OPOS or Windows driver that worked.

Jeff,

Thanks for the response.

I actually did try to use the Samsung as an Epson with no luck.

Maybe I will try to explore this a little further.

Chandler,

Found this in a old thread;

Contact Dave Schwartzbauer at Cash Register Sales in Minneapolis. snipped-for-privacy@crs-usa.com (800) 333-4949 x222

They are the US master distributor for Samsung Printers and are responsible for the development of the Samsung OPOS driver. Dave also sells RMS to retailers in Minneapolis.

I have finally got it working. I found a link to the samsung OPOS driver v2.0.6 and when I installed it, it worked as it should have.

To those that might care to know, the link is here:

I actually did send an email to someone at CRS, it wasn't Dave though.

And now I have another problem that I will have to look into.

I can CheckHealth sucessfully on both the printer and cash drawer but when I load it into MS POS, I'm getting an error telling me to make sure the printer is turned on and that I'm using the latest version of CCO.

Ah, it never ends!

Thanks Jeff, I appreciate it.

Also make sure you are running the latest version of MSPOS. There was an update sent out about 2-3 weeks ago and printed on the CD it says "includes Service Pack 1 REFRESH"

If you are a RMS reseller, you can download it here;

134 meg. I don't see anything on the CustomerSource website though

Wow Jeff, thanks a lot.

I feel pretty stupid for not thinking of that but that did it.

I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Chandler

Things are never as simple as they appear.

The printer now sucessfully prints receipts and the cash drawer operates as it should. The issue I'm having now is after a sucessful print, POS gives me an error saying "An Unknown Print Error has occured". This is after the print was sucessful.

I'm guessing it might have something to do with the old OPOS driver that I'm using but who knows.

Thanks
