Issue with OPOS drivers for STAR TSP643D

I'm having an issue with an STAR TSP643D receipt printer. I download the opos drivers from the STAR website and installed them, setup the printer and setup the printer in the RMS. However, I'm getting an unknown error when RMS tries to print. Tried to install the windows driver... but hangs RMS Store Admin and Store POS at startup. Has anyone managed to install one of these printers with RMS 1.2 (with service pack)

Tony,

We use Star's raster driver because you can modify the receipt to print the full description on multiple lines. OPOS doesn't allow it. Available on Star's website.

1) Uninstall the windows drivers - you don't want them installed if you are using OPOS.

2) Make sure there are no windows printers or other devices that are set up to use the same PORT as the receipt printer. This is a common problem with Parallel and Serial printers, as some software (Windows Fax, MS Office, Adobe Acrobat) will create virtual Windows printers that are intended to Fax documents or save them to a file. These Software printers are sommtimes assigned to the LPT or COM port by default - if your Receipt printer is actually connected to a port that is being claimed by one of these phantom devices, you will get errors in RMS...

3) Did you test the printer in the OPOS Setup utility using the "Check Health" function?

I get the raster driver to cut the CC receipt just fine.

Hi Tony,

We've used many of these with no problems.

Jeff has a point about using the raster driver - they look better too, but we stick with the opos driver because it cuts the credit card receipt like it should - the raster driver will only cut the receipt at the end of print.

Goody Goody Liquor - I think I've seen you guys in Market Watch Magazine. Good stuff...
