Geting the concepts downed

I recently sent a post to this board with the Subject: Books and Getting Started. My qestion was in reference to getting started with Microsoft POS and if there are any books out there on how to operate the system.

I think I asked the wrong question. My question is really how do I get started with the concepts of Point Of Sale in general. In other words how to get started with understanding the inventory, Daily Processes, and manipulating sales in a way that it will be useful at a later date.

If any one has material, suggestions, or can point me in the direction of some reading material on getting started with POS concepts that would be fantastic.

Thank you,

Michael

In my experience the POS... beyond it's basic purpose of adding up the total... and spitting out a receipt... is the ultimate data collector a retailer has. As Jim Dion says... "what gets measured gets changed and what gets rewarded gets done" and the more information you collect during your transactions... the better you can grow your business.

I am not familiar with Microsoft POS... but if it's anything like RMS... what you can collect in terms of data... and the ease of manipulating and then visualizing your data within Office is beyond surreal. It truly helps you to transform information technology into digital intelligence.

Enjoy the journey Michael... POS is at most exiting point in history... and Microsoft is the way to go!
