I need to retrieve membership ID (14 digits) when it is scanned during a sales transaction, the membership IDs are not set up in the RMS.
When RMS SO reads a barcode, it checks into its Item database. If there is not a match, it pops up the Item Lookup window if the option "Display unknown item screen" is checked. Is there any hook or any way that I can use to retrieve what the unknown barcode is? I really need to get the unknown barcode when it is scanned.
No, you can't.. and it's impossible also with ADD-ON because the system isn't more flexible for programming.

You can add custom button with a standard function..
when a unknown item is checked.. your cashier click on this custom button and get the barcode into a custom table..

Did you mean that, adding a custom button and let the cashier click the button to pop up a window beofre scanning a membership card? That would work except two clicks, one is to click the button, another is to dismiss the membership reading window. I was thinking a possibility to make this scanning transparent.
Outside of RMS you can use windows Notepad, just open notepad and scan the barcode - it will return the ID. If you leave it open in the background, you can Alt-Tab to it whenever you need it.
You're other alternative is to re-program the barcode scanner to turn off the carriage return sent after the barcode's scanned. But then you'll always have to hit the enter key after you scan an item to make it go to the next line in POS.
