HQ client Error, HQ server shutting down

Hi there

We are having a problem with the data upload (worksheet style 401). All other worksheets process correctly, but when client gets to worksheet style

401 we get the following messages after about 5-10 seconds:

Connection is aborted due to timeout or other failure Error 3704: Operation is not allowed when the object is closed (unhandled Error, State = '9')

I can also see that HQ server dissapears once I get this message.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I am not aware of any significant changes being made to the database that would cause this.

All Connections work fine, all worksheets work fine until client tries to process the 401 request data upload worksheet.

At that po> Test the connections to both the local store ops database and the HQ Server

Try increasing the timeout value for HQClient - go into the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Retail Management System\Headquarters\Client\Timeout

Right click MESSAGE and select MODIFY - set it to something like 7200 save and exit

7200 represents number of seconds (2 hrs) Set it to 10800 for a 3 hr timeout

Hope this helps....

I tried this and it has made no difference, although the number is changing back to 3600 after i run client.

The problem does not seem to be the timeout (i run into the problem about 4 or 5 seconds after it tries to process the 401 worksheett) but rather with HQ server freezing and shutting down when it gets to the 401 worksheet.

Thanks for all your help thus far.

Matt

Jeff, thanks for the help.

our version might be an issue although we have been running rms in its current state for years.

HQ manager, server and client are version 1.3.0203 and store ops manager is

1.3.1002

Why would it work all these years with these versions in place and then suddenly stop working this past friday? Each store connected around 2-3pm no problem, then when they tried to connect between 7-8pm each came up with the same error and they have not been able to process a 401 ever since, I have tried deleting old 401s and making new 401s but it does not help)

Also I am not sure if passwords are an issue as client will connenct to HQ server, it will process update inventory items, transfers orginiating from HQ, tax changes etc. but once client tires to process the 401 request data upload, HQ server freezes and shuts down (within 5-10 seconds) thus causing the error message in client.

I do not quite understand what you mean by "capitalization is now an issue with the new PCI rules".
