As far as I know, HQ & SO use OLE DB & ADO. There is no ODBC connection required and if you look in control panel under Data Sources (ODBC) you should not see any connection unless a user has created one for use with another application (such as MS Word or Excel for a mail merge). The RMS installers do NOT create ODBC connections.
You really can't change the way the Manager connects. The only control you have is over the protocols used (Named Pipes vs. TCP/IP). This is controlled by server connection manager (defines the protocols enabledon theserver) and client connection manager (defines the protools the client will try to connect with). These tools are standard SQL server tools, not specific to RMS.
