Labels should be easier to print

There are almost a dozen steps needed to print just one barcode label. This could be simplified onto one window to select the printer, label type, and quantity. It would also be nice to always have the label printer as the default for this type of printing.

It would also be nice to have a default or specific printer and a default label for each and every item. We use different types of tags, labels, small tags, and barbell labels for different products. We have a total of 5 different label stock and at least 2 different label layouts for each stock. For t-shirts for example we have hang tags with and without MSRP printed on it, depending if it's our own brand or if it's an other manufacturers brand (legal requirement). It would be nice to associate a particular item with a particular stock, and a particular label layout. Of course we still need to be able to override this.

I second that notion. Plus, do you guys have the problem where the preview is always messed up whenever you go to it? Every time I try and print labels with the windows drivers, the margins and page size are reset to a crappy size instead of saving my settings from the last time. Perhaps this is more on the printer driver software rather than RMS?

We have found a great way to streamline label printing. When we want to print a label for any given item we use an X-keys device. It's like a small programmable keyboard that performs the many keystrokes needed to print a label. We have programmed ours to take us through all the steps, up to the label preview. The RMS Label utility needs a mouse action at this point to finish the label. That's OK as we very often see something that needs to be fixed before printing.

We have set up various X-keys for the many different styles of labels we have defined. Push one button and the label previews. Pick up your mouse to finish.

We have also defined a variety of X-keys for reports. Open an item, push one button and you can see sales yesterday, last month, last year... for that particular item.

Visit these folks on the web at xkeys.com. We use several different 20 key desktop units. I wouldn't want to go back to the endless keystrokes you guys are experiencing.

From Item X's property window click Print. Choose the quantity to print. Choose the label type. Choose the printer. Then print.

The suggestion was to have a specific or default printer tied to each item. If I usually print hang tags but ALWAYS print butterfly labels for let's say sunglasses/jewelry why do I have to tell RMS this every time.
