Will not print reports???

Jan 15, 2011 12 Replies

I have QB2011 Accountant version and have not done the R4 update. I am suddenly unable to print any reports. I have to export to Excel and print from there. Therefore the printer driver is ok and points to a problem in QB. Any ideas here? I do notice that the printer selection is giving me a slightly different name than found on any other print window. I have an HP8500 all in one and it gives me a signal when done printing. I hear the signal when I print, but no pages come out.

I would try uninstalling the printer, rebooting and reinstalling it.

Or do a repair on your QB installation through Control Panel>>Add/remove programs.

I had a similar problem printing PO's. For some reason, QB allows you to set a default printer for each document type (i.e. invoice, PO, etc). You should be able to select the right printer from a menu instead of printing directly (similar to using ctl-p to print in Excel), and it will then become the default.

It is sending to it, but not printing. I can print checks fine, but not reports. I can print from other applications fine, just not QB reports.

You have to use the menu option that lets you select the default printer for your document type, i.e. reports, before printing. I would suggest just checking the printer settings for a document type that works, and comparing it with that. For example, if you can print invoices, go into an invoice, but instead of printing it directly, check the default settings to see what the default printer is for that document type.

Can you confirm that you have not installed R4? In 2011 you can not turn off automatic updates so R4 may have been installed without your permission. (I don't remember if they pulled R4 before it go to the automatic update stage.)

Open a sample company. Can you print from that?

As the name of the printer is different, I suspect you have picked a different printer driver. Verify your default printer.

All set to the same printer. My printer chimes when successfully completing a print job. It chimes when I send a report, but no printing. Invoices and checks print, but not reports.

It downloaded, but did not install. It asks me if I want to install it every time I open QB

Then maybe it's just yet another one of the innumerable bugs in QB, in which case I can only offer my condolences and sympathy. I was convinced that we had the same exact problem (I'd hit the print key, I'd see the sending-to pop-up, but no printer activity), but perhaps not after all.

Annoying but effective....

Another thing to try: Open up an invoice and using the drop down menu on the print button select Preview. Can you see the invoice from there and then print?

I would also suggest changing the invoice that you are using. Maybe the invoice template has become corrupt.

Do you have something like cutepdf or adobe Pro installed that allows you to print to PDF that you can try? This would eliminate QB being the culprit.

Invoices are printing, reports are not.

oops...is it a canned report or one that you have memorized?

Is the same thing happening when you pull up a sample file?
