Thanks Todd, still one more question,.... so I kind of understand that there is no "seperate" newsgroup for managed users... Its all happens here in the public newsgroup, exept for the managed support within 48 hrs form one of you guys... The link you posted took me nowhere...
thanks

Arve,
Todd's link was on two lines because of word wrap.
Either copy and paste each line into your browser's address line or click on the link below;
In the upper right corner of the page, click on Edit Profile Icon.
thanks for the replys, but I'm still a little confused,.... I feel really stupid, but I cant seem to get the answer to my question.. Is there a "seperate" newsgroup for managed user only???? or is this public newsgroup the only one???? Except for the "special" answered support from a MS tech after 48 hours, subscriber get additional??? Does that make sense??? Cuz I have made sure all my emails and info is correct and saved, but I still end up in this "public" newsgroup when I follow your links.... Thanks

Now I'm just as confused as Arve: If there is only one newgroup, and our email determines the resonse time, ... then why, in partnersource, when you go to Discussions,

There are only two newsgroups; Public (this one, microsoft.public.pos) and Managed (microsoft.private.directaccess.rms). Both of these can also be accessed through the web interface.
I'm not sure what the "Private" one is, because it's never worked for me either. I just use Public and Private Managed. I can't see why there would be a need for 3 newsgroups. Hopefully they did discontinue it, but they need to update the web interface.
The only people with access to the Private Managed groups are customers who have a valid maintenance contract, and partners.
No, that's not right... This newsgroups (microsoft.public.pos) is the only newsgroup customers have access to. Customers on the maintenence plan can register the email address they post to this group under, and MS Tech support will be alerted to their post. MS will respond if the question goes unanswered for 48 hours, but ONLY when it is posted using a registered address. I'm not sure if Tech support evaluates the quality of any answers posted by users to ensure that you get a correct response or not. There is also a clause in the managed newsgroup description that talks about Tech support answering "if the question is of general interest" - I've always taken that to mean that they may choose to respond publicly via the newsgroup, or privately via the user's registered email (which may be different than the email they post to the newsgroup under).
Partners have access to two additional newsgroups - the Managed Private Newsgroup you mentioned and an unmanaged Private group. Both of these are linked in Partner Source, but you have to go through a very tedious registration process to link your passport to them before you can actually get access. MS changed the authentication for those groups to use passport a couple of months ago and I had a hard time getting registered for them also, but it seemsto be working now. Go back to Partner Source and give it another shot - you may have to log out of passport and log back in to get the registration to work, but it's all covered in the instructions on Partner Source...
Anyway, that's my understanding...
well, I think I may have figured it out... I was calling up a saved web site in my favorites, which apparently didn't work, even though it takes me to the exact same address as if I try to get to the site through the new 'orange' partner source.
Jason & Peter,
There are 3 newsgroups, this public one and 2 private ones.
The private ones are only for reseller partners. One of them, the private "Managed" one, Todd and Daniel answer questions in and the other Private unmanaged one, they do not. There were some big retailers that were grandfathered in, but as I understand it, there will be no more.
The public one, this one, is open to everyone on the planet. To be "Managed" the user who has purchased support needs to register their email address with M$ following the instructions that Todd left. When you are enrolled with support, the customer can get into CustomerSource, update their profile, add their email address and "link" it to M$ Support. Somehow when that "managed customer" enters a question, a notice is sent to M$ Support about it. If not answered in 48 hours and "IF THE ANSWER BENEFITS THE LARGER COMMUNITY", it will be answered by an M$ employee.
Resellers cannot enter or change their CustomerSource profiles, only the ones on PartnerSource.
thank you gentlemen: I'll see you on the other side.
Peter Johns> Jason & Peter,
Holy Cow, I quess I opened up a can of worms... But, it all makes sense now,... thank you all for the info...

Arve,
I just wondering how it had "made sense" to you....I have never been able to get to that "managed group" either except for the incident support service page. No one from MS technical support ever responded to my unanswered questions here.
Am I too slow, or does everyone else who needs no support know that supports actually exists while those in need cannot get to it?...
I never know where that $250 fee went with the promise to get email supports > Holy Cow, I quess I opened up a can of worms...
Hi Kay, read the post from Todd earlier here, you need to "register" your email as managed email in your settings, then also make sure that email is also listed in your setting when you click on the little icon to the right of SIGN OUT button in the top right corner, like they say, it may take up to 48 hrs for it to be registered... Then when all thats done, post a question and if you are a "managed" user a MS tech will most likely answer your post within 48 hrs... hope this helps...

Also Kay, like they all explained here, for us "regular, pay yearly supports guys", this is the only newsgroup we have access to, except that we get a response from a MS tech within 48 hrs, if you did not have the yearly support contract, you might never get a response back from anyone!!
