From reading the posts here, it sounds like MS POS is not a good choice for restaurants. (No tips, pre-auths, tabs, etc.) And I haven't even tried setting up a pizza- or sandwich-builder scenario. I'd be curious to hear from restaurant owners who would recommend this product over one of the other POS systems designed for restaurants (Aldelo, etc.). Anyone? Thanks for your time.

Hi -- thanks for the suggestion. I have actually looked at dinerware, but I think it's a bit limiting, too. My favorite so far is Aldelo Pro because it lets you customize almost everything, but the big flaw for me is you can't import or export data from a database file or excel spreadsheet. The idea of manually entering 3,000 inventory items and 20,000 customer records is rediculous when I've already got them in a spreadsheet.

). They are a leading UK reseller if Microsoft RMS and they have written a hospitality add-on for RMS. I am not sure how good or bad it is but I understand they have had success with it. See their announcement regarding their add-on installation at the Ministry of Sound (

There is an import and export option in the back office of Aldelo, so you can use that to import data. Otherwise, you can directly access the store's data file (MDB) with Access, or use the built in SQL command window to make other changes. If you're familiar with Access, then you also won't need the password to make database changes.
