Need Different Sales Tax by Customer

I am using RMS 1.2.0151. I am located in Arkansas. Beginning 2008 we have to charge different sales tax for each city and county we do work in. This will mean my walk-in sales will get charged our store sales tax rate, but when our technicians do on-site work and we ring it up at the store in the POS, then "that" customer will need to be at another rate. So in short, I need to be able to apply a different sales tax rate to each customer. Does a newer version do this? I don't want to upgrade, do not have the funds and it is tied into other software. Can I do anything with this version to put in different sales tax for different customers? Per Item won't work, needs to be based on customer. Please - any ideas soon would be appreciated.

I am also located in Arkansas (Little Rock) and am a certified RMS partner. This is not a new law in Arkansas, it has been effect for some time, I do not know why it was included in the recent DF&A mail out to retailers. No, RMS, any version, does not have the capability to compute different taxes for customers in different cities and counties. I ran into this with one of my customers a couple of years ago, they do landscape work all over the state and must charge the sales tax for the respective localities (cities and counties). I ended up installing another POS system for them that would allow the editing of the transaction sales tax. At the time, there were no add-ins available for RMS that would allow a resolution for this issue. With my customer, I had already purchased ver. 1.3R from Microsoft for installation and subsequently learned of the issue, Microsoft refunded my money. This, in itself, would affirm that there was no solution at the time.

In RMS version 2 you can charge sales tax based on Shipto Zip, State, City etc.

If you set up the workorders as shipto orders with the customers having the appropriate shipto addresses, you can then get RMS to charge to correct sales tax. I believe that this ability is at least in the 1.3 version. I don't remember if it was in 1.2

In Manager, go into File: Configuration: Sales Tax tab: set: Assign tax Schedules on a per customer basis select the desired field for: Customer field for Tax matching:

Then set up all the Customer Taxes tables you need. The code for each entry is either Zipcode, State, or City as needed.

Tom, I dealt with this, but it has been over a year, so I do not recall all of the issues that we encountered, but we could not make it work. I recall one of the issues as follows: ABC Company located in Greene County with a local sales tax of 9.5% (includes city, county and state sales tax). We assign sales tax based upon this customer status and we go to the customer's office to perform work, we bill him at his local tax of 9.5%. However he sends one of his employees to Little Rock to pick up some merchandise and charge to his account, our local sales tax in Little Rock is 7.5% (city, county and state sales tax). He should be charged 7.5% sales tax on this transaction, not his local tax of 9.5%. If he is paying for merchandise with a tender other than charge, we can treat him as a cash customer, but if he wants to charge to his account, it is a problem (we sould also lose customer purchase history). It is possible there are work-arounds for these type of situations, but none that seemed workable, at the time.

Hello, Thank you so much for any ideas. I have continued to study on this and have got a little closer in accomplishing my goal, but not completely. Someone in another post suggested using "CTRL F7" and having a ship to address set up called "Walk In" for the customers who do walk in sales and on-site. So, I would just select the "Ship to" when they purchase in the store.

This works, BUT, when I select their alternative ship to address for that transaction by using "CTRL 7", it defaults to NO TAX. There is not a check mark in any of the boxes by the items they bought. Now, if I click in the boxes, it will create the correct tax (based on the walk-in customer), but I would like to find a way to not have to click each box. I would love to talk to someone more about this in person. Please e-mail me at snipped-for-privacy@hotmail.com Thank you.

The other post was dated 10/10 and called "How to toggle sales tax for all items > Tom, I dealt with this, but it has been over a year, so I do not recall all
