Returns Failure

We sell many "single unit" items that come in a can or bottle. We also sell bulk grocery items which have "unique quantities" like 1.21 pounds, etc.

Using Control+F4 at the POS to enter a returned item into a transaction works properly for our "single unit" items, but not for more than one OF the "single unit" items. For example, if three cans of beans were purchased, we have to enter the item code three times (each appears on its own line) for the returns to be allowed. For "unique quantity" items...when we enter the appropriate bulk item code (ex. 0186) the line stays in red...until we attempt to enter the volume of the bulk product that is being returned like 1.21 units/pounds. Upon pressing the "enter" key the line changes back to black and appears as a regular sale...instead of a return.

Is there something we are missing and can correct in Manager? Very few bulk items are "even unit" items.

Any help appreciated.

I would guess when you enter the positive number for weight it no longer considers it a return. Have you tried setting all your 'weighed' items to the item type 'weighed' in your item properties screen. This way all weighed items will pop up a box prompting the cashier for a weight at sale or return, making it easier to enter those items.

You can enter an item as a return by entering the quantity as a negative too. But from my experience you cannot use the numeric keypad, you must use the '-' key on the regular keyboard.

Hope that helps,

Hello Marc,

Your suggestion regarding the "weighed" item type was very helpful! This eliminates the need for entering the negative value from the "dash" location and also eliminates navigating to the quantity column.

You get a "gold star" next to your name today!
