SBA & POS

I have been using SBA for a while now to manage my online webstore. I am going to be opening a retail store in about a month and I am looking to use POS in the store. The problem I think I am going to run into is that SBA is installed on a server at home, and the retail store is in a different locaton. How difficult is it going to be to get the data synched between them?

I would rather not bring SBA to the office because all my online stuff is done out of my house.

Can I do a daily export of some sort to get them to synch?

Also, since this is a just a small retail shop, there is no real need for me to get RMS is there? In looking at the differences, it looks like POS will work fine.

@ $39 on Amazon after a mail-in rebate, buy a second copy of SBA and run it as a second enterprise!

No, I need a POS system (Bar code reader, CC processor, receipts, etc) for the retail store. I am not going to enter the customer information or any of that for each sale.

POS looks like it will fit the bill, but I am concerned about the integration.

What I meant was that as cheap as SBA is, you might be better off buying a second copy of SBA as it is required to be on the same machine to import RMS/POS data into. Then copy the SBA data files to the home machine.

Oh I see what you mean. I was kind of thinking that myself. Can you merge two databases in SBA or will I need to not touch the one at home until I merge the copy from the store and vice versa?

I was also thinking I might setup a VPN between my home and the office and have the copy of SBA/POS at the store connect right to the db at home.

Never tried VPNing. Its not supported by MS, so you would be on your own!

Bill,

You can try POS 2.0. It provides tight SBA/POS integration with SBA 2007. Both of them are in beta phase. You can have SBA stored in a laptop and POS stored in a desktop. So they can bring the laptop home.
