Setting Up Terminal Offline?

Jan 31, 2008 2 Replies

On page 448 of the Store Operations User's Guide V2, it says "If the terminal offline database is properly defined, Store Operations will switch to terminal offline mode and store standard sales transactions in a backup database. Once the file server has been restored, the cashier can restart the POS program, return to online mode and automatically update the primary database with the backup data."

What I cannot find is any information on how to properly define a terminal offline database. Am I missing a piece of documentation?

Thanks.

You need to restore a blank RMS DB (rmsdb.bck in the DBFiles folder) onto the local SQL server and specify the connection in Administrator->Configuration->Offline tab. Please note that the offline database must always be on a different SQL server than your live database. Therefore, if you have your live database on the same computer it won't work (I guess it makes sense)

Thank you! I ran a few tests and it worked perfectly. I did have to enable 'OpenRowset/OpenDatasource' of component 'Ad Hoc Distributed Queries' in SQL Server so the databases could sync up, but the error message was surprisingly useful on that. One more problem down.
