Offline Database Synchronizing

I understand that when I do a "Z" report the database gets updated. Currently I do a blind closeout on each register at the end of every day. Do I still need to do a "Z" report to update this?

Thanks

Dear Tony, First of all what is the Z report in your thought. the purpose of Z report is to reconcile all your cash, credit card etc and verify the sales and in this you basically counting every tender, however in blind closeout feature is develop where you don't wanted to count the money/tenders infront of public or may be in hurry closing up your shift. so you take everthing with you then sit on your room to count the money. Once you done blind closeout you can use manager program to enter the closing amounts and/or generate the X or Z reports.

Now how I can do X or Z report. it is very easy. Go to Journal then click on Update Batch Info, Specify the your filter criteria the open and blind closed batches report will appear. Move your mouse to batch and then double click it will give you to perform enter opening amount/closing amount x report or z report.

Rate please.

This is currently the process we use. But my question is does this update the offline database or do I need to do another procedure?

Thanks

My question is does the offline database get updated when I do a Blind closeout on each register or do I need to do a "Z" report on each register to update the offline database. If I do have to use the offline database I just want to make sure the data is current.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it has to be a Z Report. When you do a blind close, does the "Synchronizing Database" window appear on the register? If not, the off-line database is not being updated.

The answer to your question is no. You do not need to do additional Z- Outs on the register after you do a Blind Close to synch the offline DB.

This is assuming the offline DB is set up properly. If you see the synchonization message then it simply means you have an offline DB set up. To be sure the offline DB is local to the register being blind closed, check the offline DB tab of SO Administrator on the register. I went into one store where the OL DB was on another back office machine. All the registers OL DBs were set to the SAME DB on this machine. luckily they had never gone offline. I can't imagine how RMS would have reacted.

Offline mode is there for you to be able to continue running in the event of disconnect from the main DB until the main DB comes back online. So, as a stop gap measure it is limited to simply ringing up sales. No other admin can or should be done. because of this, I have all offline DBs pointing to a DB local to the register machine. This means I can unplug the cat5 from the machine and comtinue running.

A final thought on offline mode is directed to all of you third party vendors that offer pricing add-ins. you should take offline mode into consideration when developing your apps. I currently am unwilling to use any of them simply because I have 15 days a year to run some of my stores and I do 85% of my business in 4 of those days. Offline mode for me is critical as a single 30 minutes of downtime can cost me money measured in full percentages of my yearly sales. If I can't run your add-in 100% of the time I can run RMS I can't afford the risk.

Relating to the offline database...we are operating with version 1.3r on both our back office and POS machines. I have attempted to generate an offline database for use when the server is off-line, but it was placed upon the backoffice computer. Consequently, whenever the POS computer starts it throws an error message "synchronization could not be performed" (2147467259), etc.

How does one get that backup file properly located on the POS computer and up-to-date?

Hello, I use the terminal database offline withe my POS (rms 1.3R). I create my database with Pos administrator, specifie the server for offline database. When I generate Z report , the database synchronize items and customers. But my problem is : I have a custom Table with Price connected to the Item's table, and this table doesn't synchronize with the offline database.

Is it a solution to my problem ? or a tips ?

Thanks

Sorry for my english.
