tax not being applied to all items

Aug 01, 2009 7 Replies

Hi,

Today I used the item tax wizard to apply tax to all of our items. After committing the changes, it looks like every went through fine. I Z'ed out the registers and rebooted. However, now it appears random items are being sold without the tax being applied. About half the items work and half don't. Anyone know why?

Some other notes:

-Under sales tax configuration, I have it set to "tax exclusive" and "assign tax on per item basis

- if I go to the properties of an individual item, the tax drop down is greyed out and blank Thanks

Update:

Certain items are still not being taxed when scanned at POS. It's not random...some items will get tax applied, some will not. If I go into an item properties and manually click the tax id dropdown then the item taxes correctly and problem is fixed. But we have 13,000 items in db so this isn't an option. I also ran a sql command: "update item set taxid = 3 where departmentid = 2" and the command completed successfully. But the problem still exists. Could this be database corruption?

One more update...sorry

If I do a query into the database using "select * from item" to see all items, I have specifically found items that have a taxid set, but when scanned into the POS they do not get tax applied. And I have rebooted everything.

Thanks

there was a hotfix that addressed the tax selection box not properly being affiliated with the tax field in the table, but this was a long time ago.. Are you up to the latest version??

I've found that if I manually go into an item, change the tax drop down to unassigned and then change it back to "sales tax" that seems to fix the problem. But again it's 13,000 items so I'm trying to figure out why program doesn't seem to be working correctly.

Thanks for the response.

Sounds stupid but I just updated all my stores for the NYC sales tax change and Z'ed out each register as it says. Well guess what, you need to RESTART the register for it to take not just run a Z report. I figured this out a bit late.
