Upgrading QS2000 to RMS

I run a decent sized store with 14 employees and five POS terminals. We run several hundred transactions per day. I've been using QS2000 since

1998 and now I'm seriously considering making the upgrade to RMS. Over the years I've experienced a variety of problems and learned to live with the limitions of QS2000. Since I know the old software inside and out, I'm a bit hesitant to make the jump into RMS. Better the devil you know...

I'd like to hear from anyone who's made this transition. How easy is it to convert the database? Will I lose anything when it converts? What problems can I expect in getting used to the new software? Somebody mentioned that it takes more steps to add an item; How much more difficult is it to add an item? Or a vendor? What's the best feature that RMS offers over QS2000?

Thanks for your input. I'm sure other would appreciate it as well.

Upgrading from QS2000 to RMS is normally not a very difficult process. When upgrading to RMS it does import everything from QS2000. Also there is a very small learning curve because it is similar in appearance. We have worked with a number of customer that have made this upgrade and are very happy that they did.

We upgraded from QS2000 to RMS March 2004. Software at POS terminal works very similar to QS200. The disappointment for me is with Manager. On average to takes 2 or more screens more than QS2000 to enter an new object and that is if you copy over existing data. RMS categorizes suppliers by a number , you can search for them by name with a single click. Just a forewarning: the standard reports suck if you're comparing to what QS2000 gave. You can make custom reports but some of them are tricky. A lot of good information is proved through this forum and reports and all.

Great aspects: the ability to set securities levels for up to 30 different levels and can assign each level to a cashier. You can customize the screen to show or not show functions based on security levels. For instance only the owner and myself have the option to delete a customer or item at POS station. You can make hot buttons and show pics of items. We don't use either but they're available. Work orders transfer the inventory out rather than the transfer out option of QS2000. Recalling any transaction is easier because of the search option RMS has.

I had 4 staff that learned the system from the QS2000 aspect. They all knew that one. 4 other staff trained solely on the RMS system. The staff learned all the basics fairly quickly. Not saying they don't have problems but they can be solved easily.

No problems with SQL engine. We are using supplied MSDE since our file size is well under the 2GB limit.

We've run into a few problems with data conversions from QS2000 to RMS. So test your conversion beforehand.

Also, I believe the way kits work has changed in RMS compared to QS2000.
