Upgrading soon: Which PCCharge option is right for us?

Mar 31, 2006 5 Replies

Hey all,

I am the IT director for a two store craft chain (approximately 15 lanes). My company is going to be upgrading to Microsoft RMS over the summer. Our credit card processor, Paymentech, has strongly recommended using PCCharge as payment solution.

I was wondering which version we need to get -- we are looking for a solution that the cashier won't even know is there. In other words, we don't want to train our cashiers to use RMS and PCCharge. We just want them to know how to use RMS and let PCCharge handle all of the work.

That said, do we need PCCharge Payment Server, or PCCharge Pro? Also, if we purchase the Payment Server version, is there an additional fee for each register?

Thanks in advance, Alex

Alex,

I would recommend just the opposite. Unless you are doing check checking, the built-in RMS interface will work just fine with Paymentech for credit/debit cards.

Alex --

I concur with Jeff.

And if you have a requirement for ECC (Electronic Check Conversion), than I'd recommend TPI's Smartpayments plug-in. It integrates tightly with RMS and works transparently in the background...it's also portable if you ever end up switching from Paymentech.

Personally I signed up with Mercurypay.com which integrates with RMS, and it's great for Credit/Debit...they do not handle EBT, but that was okay as I have a stand alone that does ebt. I would give them a call, and see what they can do for you???

Our local rep "prefers" PC-Charge since Paymentech didn't have to run over "Vital" in order to process which meant it was cheaper to them; but for RMS installs we've always used the "Preferred Provider" setup and it's been flawless so far...

Your bank rep don't know what he is talking about. We are ISO with Paymentech with Paymentech. We setup RMS with Paymentech all the time, if you use pc charge then you won't be able to accept debit cards with RMS Store ops.

Give us a call we can help you with Paymentech using RMS with the same rates.

Thanks
