Vista Permissions...

I have Vista set up on the POS boxes in our store. Other then having issues with our receipt printers, everything is working fine. One question I have is, how can I make user level staff work in POS under Vista? I can't seem to find a place to enter credentials for the shortcut to make this work. We really can't have the users running around in Vista as admins.

Thanks a million.

I have my registers configured to auto-launch POS at startup. The login is a restricted user, the auto-launch for POS is configured to 'Run as...' Administrator.

I'm not running Vista.

Might be worth a try.

Thanks for the info. The issue is, that whatever I do, the users are required to enter credentials (local admin ones) to fire up POS. If I add it to the start up list of programs, Vista just blocks it.

Anyone have any thoughts. All the great "security stuff" has to be disabled to get RMS to work in Vista. I guess a simpler question is, can I get RMS to run in Vista with user level permissions?

Here are the steps:

  1. While you are logged on to Windows under an administrator account, open the registry editor. To do this, click Start, click Run, type REGEDIT, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then right-click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Store Operations POS

  1. Click Permissions, and then click Advanced.
  2. Locate or create the permissions entry or entries that apply to the non-administrator account or accounts that will run POS, click the entry, and then click Edit.
  3. Under the Allow column for this user, click to select the Full Control checkbox.
  4. In the dialog boxes, click OK to apply the settings.
