audit trails

any experience with using the audit trail report? I want to prevent users from modifying posted orders; I can (almost) do this with user permissions. However, I also need to show emphatically that such modifications have not occured, regardless of the source.

Try using a closing date password to see if this helps.

Yes, it's easy, provided you know what day the change happened. Otherwise the report is rather big. Filters help if you are looking for a specific transaction.

If you want some general all purpose all transactions coverage, look into setting a closing date password. But anyone who has that, or the admin password can make a change.

If you only need verfication, when you set the closing date, make a backup copy. At a later time check the P&L and Balance Sheet the backup copy gives against the work file.

The only way to 99% lock it, is to condense the data, but you lose the detail. Even then it isn't 100% locked as anyone who has access to the paper copy, photocopier, scissors and a glue stick can change it. What I'm saying is there is no 100%.
