Concurrent access to QB?

I have a customer that needs to have two computers access QB at the same time. The local office products store offers QB 2005 Pro($750.00), that allow 5 simultaneous users. Is this my only option?

Thanks in advance,

Dave H.

YOu don't need to buy that package. This provides 5 different install key codes in one package. If you were to purchase 2 single-license copies of Pro (about 150 to 175 each), you could run both concurrently.

If the access checks are as the same as QB6 then you can frig it so that one copy can be used across 5 computers.

In QB 6, the security checking for networking is really poor and easily defeated - on QB start up each computer checks to see whether the installation code (stored in the registry) is ok. When you try to load the shared file QB checks that each code is unique as each computer signs in, it doesn't check that the codes are valid.

So you buy a single user pack and install it on all the computers on the network. On each computer, you do a reg export of the Intuit branch and save it as 'before running QB.reg' as a shortcut on desktop. Then edit the registry on each computer and add 1 to the serial number saved in the intuit 'serial number' location untill you have up to five different numbers. Save this as shortcut. Save intuit branch as 'after starting QB .reg'

Now to use the system , you : Double click 'before running QB.reg' which sets registry to a valid QB instruction code. Open Quickbooks Run 'after starting QB.reg' - sets reg number to a unique serial. Open company file

So three icon clicks and your in on multiuser. Good eh?

Another bonus is that you never have to register - everytime you click 'before QB' it sets the 'register after 25 uses' counter back to 25

From what I've seen of your contribution here, pot and kettle spring to mind. Go f*ck yourself.

Telling the good folk that come here how to steal is a contribution? As a side bar if I could I would.

And you 'good folk' and Intuit are 'good creative and talented people'? Whatever shit-for-brains.

One caveat. If you ever want to provide multi-user access over a wide area network, you will want to run Quickbooks on a Windows 2003 Terminal Server. The only way this works is if you buy the 5 user pack. If you have already bought 2 individual copies, there is no trade-up to a 5 user pack.

Typically, you can buy the 5 user pack for the cost of 2.5 individual single user copies. The amount you save by buying 2 copies vs. the 5 user pack will probably be less than $100. You may kick yourself down the road that you didn't get the added flexibility and users by spending that extra money up front.

How dare you blaspheme Allah!

The "good god loving folk" Mr Moron are capable of deciding what to do on their own, nobody needs your protection.

Try harder. You're too used to the Intuit incompetence you worship.

You are wrong about Intuit and twice as wrong about the good god loving folk here. There are times where tempation is so great that a little guidance is needed. Even you are worthy of being saved. It is not to late.

Thanks for the input. I have not purchased yet. I will take your suggestion into account.

Where is this NG defined as being "god loving". Which god are you speaking of? Are the atheist and agnostics not allowed to contribute? I don't "love god", whatever that means!

I personally welcome all religious, nonreligious, antireligious and uncommitted religious beliefs to contribute to my OP. I don't discriminate!

Reread your response. Is this from someone who is "honest" and "god loving". I think not. You need to choose your words more carefully.

With all due respect,

Dave H.

I took the time and re-read my posts several times and keep coming to the same conclusion.

Only a smuck would actully think I was serious. Get a life my son, its just an accounting software program made by the mighty Intuit.

Allow me to introduce you to Allan, self-proclaimed Intuit fan-boy. He is sometimes witty, sometimes helpful, sometimes amusing and most times sarcastic.

His comment was *NOT* an expression of the religious right - rather a condemnation of sharky, who advised (not that you asked) that you STEAL the additional licenses you asked about.

Now, in case that wasn't your intention (and for all I dislike the Intuit money grabbing sunset policy and equally greedy wipe-out-any payroll capability without subscription I'm thinking theft is not the answer) - then sharky's advice falls into the not helpful and possibly harmful category.

Allan's witticism was directed to impressing sharky with the error in that thinking. It would have been nice if Allan had given you the answer you requested -- but to be fair, by the time sharky posted his drivel you had already received two answers to your post.

Guide the lost sheep then Mr Dufus. Tell them when they see Quickbooks to bend over and pray for guidance. Leave the devil's posters alone because they fulfill your god's purpose.

I am one of those gods people love, I can save myself. But I don't like you so I let you worship Quickbooks. Now go fan.

Thanks L,

I may be wrong but I believe I failed to impress the young shark man. At ther very least he now knows that not everyone will stand up and cheer when he diseminates information that can be used to hurt others.

Just to set the record straight I'm not certain his method even works, I probably will never know because I won't waste my time.
