Configuring QB Enterprise 2010 Database Server Manager

What is the purpose of the QB Enterprise 2010 Database Server Manager? The "Installation and Setup Guide" says you need to manually configure it. We run in a Terminal Services configuration with a 10 user version, and we did NOT configure Database Server Manager. The installation application never asked us to configure this application.

When I manually start the Database Server Manager it is not watching any folders. But QB 2010 appears to work just fine. It's not clear what is the purpose of the Database Server Manager and why do I need to "configure" anything in it at all. Does it even apply to our case running Terminal Services, where all users login to one computer by Terminal Services and share the Quickbooks data file in Multi User mode locally?

I would love to know the same thing. It obviously isn't a real server side database engine.

I mentioned this a few months back. I have a location where they are running the "enterprise" version and one of the users experienced a problem when she was unable to open a company that someone else already had open. Previously she was working in another company.

I checked and found that the "database server" service was stopped likely as a result of a power interruption. A few days earlier the power went off during the night and the UPS shutdown the server. When the power came back up the "database server" never started. So it would seem the only thing the "database server" does is track things during multiuser use.
