IIF Alternative

For those of you that are struggling with IIF files, I have an alternative -

1) Quickbooks Interfaces that uses XML data as input instead of IIF 2) provides Invoice updates instead of duplication 3) allows for unique customer ids from your database and adds them to a Quickbooks custom field

May I suggest Kathy Ivens' excellent book, "Running QuickBooks 2005 Premier Editions" (CPA 911) available at

It doesn't cover each column, does it ? it only gives a breif overview of what is in the quickbooks literature that comes with the CD.

"The Offical Guide" from Intuit sucks. Agreed? Ivens' book gives more detail and suggestions, but it isn't a how-to in this regard.

She wrote "The Offical Guide" that comes with QuickBooks and QuickBooks Pro (unless you get the upgrade from Intuit, then you get a discount card from Barnes & Nobel). I'm tempted to order it for the benefit of my clients. She's clearer and more concise than the committee that wrote Intuit docs.

Intuit never supported IIF. It may well disappear soon. Intuit already announced that 2006 will have a commercial database and run faster, which will make r XML import / export easier. They also already have long said that QB and QB SDK upgrades will not break XML links, so why use IIF?

You need not program to use Excel bidirectionally with QB (Flexquarters, Number Cruncher, etc.). You also do not need to be a programmer to use almost all 500 QB add-ons at
