Manual Payroll

Is there a way to do payroll manual in quickbooks 2001?

I only have one employee and that person works partime, not sure if I need the full service.

P.S. I am using the Canadian Version

Sure. There are several ways to calculate the appropriate payroll deductions. I suggest the free "Tables on Diskette" (TOD) from CRA

Then simplyrecord a cheque with the appropriate accounts and amounts in theExpenses tab on the cheque. You definitely don't need the full payroll service for one part-time employee, and it's not available for older QB versions anyway.

You will need to prepare the T4 slip manually (no big deal), keeping track of the information needed for that purpose (and the information needed for vacation pay obligations and future issue of a Record of Employment). You can keep track of all amounts semi-automatically in QB if you set up all the right accounts, or you can get a "payroll register" (ledger book) from most business supplies stores.

See below:

With the completed cheque still in view, click on the Edit option in the menu at the top, then select "Memorize Cheque". Then as you need to process each period's pay, you select that memorized cheque and change the date, and cheque number as required. If this person's gross pay changes, refer again to you TOD and edit the amounts. Rememorize this item if required. This will make paying your part timer easy if they work the same number of hours every period.

You will need to make sure that your ability to track payroll manually is turned on and all appropriate accounts exist in your chart of accounts for the payroll expenses and liabilities.
