QB 2009 won't start all of a sudden!

I have not made an entries to our QB 2009 program since last Dec. (long story) Today when I went to open the program I received an error say something about qbregistration.dat file and to contact the admin and have them remove that file and reinstall QB. I am the only user and I AM the admin. So I go ahead and remove that file and try to install again and this time I get a 1334 error and says that the "titles.css" file cannot be installed. I research that error and there was a whole description on renaming the Data1 file to old and copying the Data1 file from the CD which I did and no go! It says the same thing about the 1334 error only this time it also said something about to make sure MSXML4 is correctly installed! WTH! This software had been running fine with no problem and now all of a sudden I can't even open it or even re-install! I am running Windows 7 32 bit on a fairly new powerful computer! I don't know what the heck to do??? Can anyone help?

Are you running AVG? There have been reports that suddenly AVG and QB

2009 don't work together...

When you tried reinstalling QB did you disable your A/V and firewall software programs?

No, I am not running AVG, I am running Microsoft Security Essentials but I will now try to reinstall again disabling that and the firewall as you suggest and post back.

Thank you for your response!

NO GO! I get the same error messages no matter what I try! I can't even uninstall the program through the Windows Control Panel. It says something about the qbregistration file. I also tried putting that file back in and still no go. I can't reinstall over top. I can't delete the program and start new. I can't start the program at all! I have tried deleting the qbregistration file as the error windows suggested. I have tried replacing the Data1 file as they suggested. NDA! I keep getting the either the error that I need to delete the qbresitration file and when I try to proceed I get a 1334 error about "titles.css" file and MSXML4 being installed. I just DO NOT know what I am going to do! I don't understand why I can't just delete the whole program and reinstall!

Not sure I can help directly, but...

Was it ever running under Win7? If so, I'd guess a later update of the OS changed something, if not then that's a clew...

Intuit says QB09 will run under Win7 but isn't supported so you can try the automated issues service and if it can find a problem you're in luck; if not there's no recourse from Intuit other than upgrade.

Otherwise, as noted elsewhere, I'd suggest a full virus/malware system check and cleanup and then the reinstall w/ "compatibility mode" and Admin, etc., to disable as much of the security stuff inside the OS that are more onerous than earlier...

Yes, it's running under Windows 7 32 bit now and had been running fine before, but I think you may have hit on something on the updates. I do remember running the update on QB before the last close. Maybe that or Windows update broke something??? What exactly is "automated issues service" you mention?

Also, if I do have to go the purchase new copy of QB (which totally &@#$(&# me off!) can I just install that over the current problem installation I have now since I can't remove it?

I have QB2009 running with no problems on Win 7. I have not seen too many comments from folks having issues with 2009 so I would try fixing things first.

I would find a reputable registry cleaner and remove any traces of quickbooks in the registry as well as on your hard drive. Then reboot and then try installing again.

OK, the first confirms that you didn't have an issue and now you do--therefore, _SOMETHING_ changed rather than this being new w/ Win7 on your system.

Likely candidates are, as you say, software updates or perhaps even more likely, malware or virii obtained from downloads or e-mail or such.

As Laura says, do a system cleanup and try again. The issues I've seen w/ Win7 and QB have to do w/ some features, not the base product.

There's a FAQ at the Intuit support site that lists a half-dozen or so, but unless one of them is a personal gotcha', it should run.

See the various topics at the following link for the others...

I googled MSXML4 and found that it is an MS windows piece of software related to XML core. Have you checked that your windows is fully up-to-date? maybe one of the windows components got corrupt. .Net Framework was also mentioned on one of the pages. I would make sure that is also fully updated.

Simply go to the bottom of the previous message and start typing instead of leaving the cursor at the default top of the page--I don't use MS readers so not sure where the options to change the default are, but can't be very deep.

As for the "newer version" I'd search for the downloaded updates .exe or .zip file and either rename it or delete it or copy it to CD or something to eliminate the possibility the installer is searching for stuff as well as anything in any subdirectory w/ Intuit. Then I'd run the reg cleaner again and retry.

Laura looked for the MSXML4 -- if you installed originally some time back and have had automatic MS updates on, my supposition would be there's a conflict w/ the current version of the OS internals that QB uses and what's assumed in the installation. Since QB09 didn't have specific Win7 support, the farther from the initial rollout, the more likely for such to happen.

There's also the compatibility settings you can try...

I've heard there's also an XP-compatibility mode that is a download but know nothing more than that about it...

It starts to be more of a iffy proposition and as noted I "know nuttink" (a la Sgt Schultz) wrt to Win7 specifics but if there's a icon or option to rollback OS update(s) I'd surely be tempted if Laura's suggestions don't bring joy.

GUESS WHAT??? I GOT IT INSTALLED AND WORKING!!! I had previously done a search on MSXML4 but it was all Greek to me. This time I did a Google Search for "MSXML4 and Quickbooks Pro 2009" and got to this link :

formatting link
which I tried and it totally worked! It seems it needs this MSXML4 file in order to read the qbregistration.dat file and mine must have been either missing or corrupt so extracting it from the QB installation CD and repairing the MSXML file did the trick! I'm back in business! I hope that anyone else reading this with this same problem is helped by my bad experience. Thank you both for hanging in there with me and please keep this info for future help to others. AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Sorry about the top posting I don't know where the setting is to change it. I am running windows live mail.

It is new to WLM. WM and OE never had this option.

They have buried it....Go to Tools>>Options. On the Advanced tab, under Reply/forward select the "reply on bottom of message".

Alternatively, you can just move your mouse down to the bottom of the message before typing your reply.

I don't see how picking the mouse up and putting the mouse down on the screen below the message will make any difference. As soon as I let go to use the keyboard it will fall to the desk. Now moving the cursor might make a difference.
