Guys
A Long tale of woe though perhaps I should have taken greater care!
I've been running one of my small businesses on this version for more years than I care to remember and have always backed up to CD and on the C drive, but more recently I have used an additional internal hard drive for this function.
Yesterday I needed to run QB 5 and was presented with a screen saying "there is no company file open." This has never happened before and I thought there had just been a glitch so went to file-open-company and selected my file and was then presented with the message "this is not a QuickBooks file" A feeling of total disbelief and horror struck me!
Now I need to say that also running on this computer is QuickBooks Regular 2006 which I purchased for the e-mail function to operate some other accounts. A few days ago I accepted an automatic update of this, and this is the only thing that I can think of that might have effected my QB v 5 files. Perhaps this is a long shot but at the moment I am clutching at straws!
What is strange to me at least is that the files with the QBW extension now have the QB Regular 2006 icon rather than the old QB v5 icon. I tried altering the open with and that did not allow me to open the file in QB v5. If I try to open a copy of this QBW file in the QB Regular
2000 it asks me to go through the upgrade procedure but then the last year of entries is missing.
I would really appreciate some help on this please. Yes I know that had I continued with backing up to CD I could have just gone back a week and been fine as it is.........!
Many thanks
