Restore of 06 QBB files to newly installed 07 Quickbooks

What on earth do you mean: "people who generally don't stay current on technology"?

They use QB don't they?

As evidenced by posts here, there are plenty of people using QB software that is many years old. Do you call that staying current?

Hi Guys!

I see some of you have some very strong feelings about Intuit. But, I did want to chime in real quick just to let you know you can restore a backup from a floppy in QuickBooks 2007. The functionality of being able to make a backup on a floppy was taken away in QuickBooks 2007, as it is not a reliable media. I do not mean that in a bad way, but if you have a file backed-up on 5 disks, and one of the disks has errors, you no longer have any backup. This was for the best interest of everyone.

However, you can restore a backup from a floppy in QuickBooks 2007. I tried it myself, just to be sure, and it worked without error. I created a backup in my QuickBooks 2006 program onto 3 floppies, and then restored them in the QuickBooks 2007 program. The only thing you need to be aware of is which disk is which. You will need to start with the first backup disk, if you do not have them labeled, then that might have caused the error you received.

I hope this helps, Amy

Oh my. I feel so stupid. Why did I assume that just because you can no longer backup to diskette in version 2007 that one can't store from one. I should have tested before I opened my typing fingers. Amy you the Woman.

As much as I hate to defend your actions (I must've gotten some of your beer) the OP did say that QB Tech Support, the folk who are supposed to know what they're talking about, told the OP that he/she could NOT restore from diskette in 2007.

Thanks Amy. You consider informing the tech support person who talked to the OP and told them the opposite.

Here's one thing you may not have tried already...locate the file(s) on your hard drive and open the properties (right-click > Properties). Verify that the files aren't Read-Only.
