Thick lines on invoices

Guys I'm now using QB Regular 2006 and find that the lines that denote the various area of the invoices are very much thicker than was the case with a very much older version of QB. I have to say that they are now rather crude rather than fine delicate lines I have become used to.

The computer and the printer are exactly the same and I cannot find an option in QB to reduce the line thickness. Has anyone any idea how I can make the change to thinner lines please?

Many thanks for any assistance

I wish I had your problems.

Why would anyone upgrade to a version of QB 2 years old?

Customize the form. You can modify the thickness of the lines using the layout designer.

Unless there's an option in the border option to set the line type as well as the position, afraid Intuit has decided what you need for you. (This isn't available in any version of QB I'm aware of, btw... :( )

Why?

You misunderstood me. I did not say that I had just upgraded, actually I upgraded a couple of years ago but only recently have needed to print out invoices rather than e-mail them so it has now become an issue for me. The old version of QB rendered the lines as far less intrusive, and IMO it resulted in a more "professional" looking invoice

I would like to think you are correct but I cannot see how to do this so perhaps you could explain how.

Many thanks

Good thing you are not the center of the universe. I have it in mine, QB

2008 Premium.

To customize your invoice, go to Lists>>template list and find your invoice. Double click on the invoice name to initate the edit mode. Click on the Layout Designer. For each piece of the invoice, click on an area and then click on Properties. (or right click and select Properties) Go to the Border tab and change the Thickness of the lines drawn to "Thin". Repeat for all remaining boxes drawn on the invoice. Save the invoice. Hopefully, this will change the thickness of the lines to your satisfaction.

Many thanks Laura for your help. Unfortunately QB 2006 Regular only offer these options under properties/border Left, right, top, bottom. Very frustrating

I wonder if anyone else can confirm my findings for this version of the software. Perhaps the UK supplied version is a cut down one.

Cheers

US QB 2006 Premium has this feature.

You will need to highlight EACH box drawn on the invoice to accomplish this.

Which version are you using, Laura?

As I noted earlier, earlier versions don't offer line width as an option on borders, only allows setting which sides of the boxen have them...don't know where it started, but none that I have are new enough (of course, I'm farther behind than Richard, even).

Think he's stuck w/ what Intuit used for his version... :(

Thanks Laura, but unfortunately on my version this does not offer any more than offering a border option and no mention of line thickness.

I have never found the lines on invoices to be thick...whatever you mean by that. You can change the font sizes, types and lines if you wish in Lists/Templates. You can arrange things how you like.

I am using Premier but I "toggled" to the Pro version. Open up a new invoice and select the Layout designer. Highlight a box and select Properties in the upper left hand corner. You should have 3 tabs: Text-Border-Background. On the Border tab you will have options for border-pattern-rounded corners-thickness. Do you see the same options that I have?

Oh, no. I just noticed your UK e-mail address. Are you using a UK version of QB? Most of us in this group are using the US version. If you don't see these options then this is another difference between the country versions.

I think I also mentioned that I'm using what they call here in the UK QB

2006 Regular whatever that means! Twice the price you guys pay too I expect!

Thick or bold as in wide rather than narrow

There is no option I can find for changing line thickness..fonts and font colour yes.

Not so on my version.

One (albeit perhaps inconvenient) alternative would be to print a blank form from your earlier QB version that was as desired (assuming the update didn't wipe it out, of course, or that you could re-install it somewhere temporarily out of harm's way of current data files, etc.) and then use it as a template for making forms to use as the feedstock.

If all else fails, one could even use Excel or some other similar program as the forms generator.

I always invoiced out of Excel, anyway, as the clients asked for detail in format that QB was simply unable to generate; but that wouldn't be practical for large numbers. I typically had only 2-3 clients at a time, max, rather than selling products or some such...

Anyway, just an (perhaps impractical?) idea/alternative...

I missed that info in the beginning or I probably would not have posted with my response. Sorry about that.

I recently had the request from one clien to send an invoice to a customer using their fancy letterhead. It was faster to create the template using Word. Now we have an invoice template we can use if the need ever comes up again.

Where there's a will...there's a way.

I once hear of a group of people that called themselfs "Printers". They have the odd profession of actually printing forms that can be used by QB end users for their invoices. Their wares were valued by thoses that wanted to make an favorable impression on their customers.
