W-2's & Plain paper-perforated

Just realized that the employee's copies of W-2 are supposed to be on perforated paper. I did not do this year - and I'm still alive! But, has anyone found a source for this perforated paper - other than Intuit? I've checked local office supply stores online and it is not shown. Maybe they have it in their stores.TIA

You can always use a scissor if you are in a bind.

That is what I did last year! I unknowingly "broke" the IRS rule last year & lived to tell about it! But this year, in reading the IRS Publication

1141, it says in section 2.05 "Employee copies of Form W-2 (Copies B, C, and 2), including those that are printed on a single sheet of paper, must be easily separated. Providing perforations between the individual copies satisfies this requrement, but using scissors to separate Copies B, C, and 2 does not."

At your local fabric store (or the fabric section of Wal-Mart) is a device that looks like a small pizza cutter. It makes perforations. I've also seen an even better device in the crafts section for just this purpose.

Stick a pin in the middle of the stack of W2s. Voila, perfed.

Nobody said how many perforations there must be per page. (but I suppose that will be part of the next mandate)

If I can cut them, so can the employee. What is this world coming to?

Too old for this much nonsense, Joanne

Allen-I was not joking! That is EXACTLY what it says in IRS Pub #1141! I couldn't believe it, either. Anyway, I've already ordered the "perfed" plain paper. So, myself & my clients will be "in compliance" this year!
