2006 ending - choose 07, 08, or 09 ?

The online download support for Quicken 2006 will be ending soon. Which would be the best for the next upgrade....2007, 2008, or 2009 ?

I only use Q2006 for basic investment history & transaction downloads since they have TOTALLY eliminated any links to Yahoo Finance or any other site that has "useful" information... but that's another thread -

Each time they have rolled the quicken download into the sunset, I've upgraded to the next 2yr version - so this looks like maybe Quicken

2008 ?

I had run Quicken on my very old desktop - Win98se - 233Mhz 64MB - but then - can't recall if it was Quicken or TurboTax - that would no longer "support" Win98se when MS dropped support.... so - had to install on my XP laptop -

If you are going to upgrade, I don't think you should consider anything but the newest version--2009. The differences between it and previous versions may be slight, but they do exist, and they are slight improvements.

You are apparently someone who upgrades only when necessary, rather than every year. So especially considering that, note that if you get

2009, it will be longer before you will again need to get a new version.

tnx - Having seen what Quicken has done to their current product line with regard to "investing", I'm a little concerned about any gradual dumbing down of the versions with respect to 07, 08, 09 - sorta like the Vista effect - Yeah - it looks "pretty", but it doesn't work :)

Without a "useful" online component because they have brought it "inhouse" from Yahoo Financial, I'm left with whatever is still "working" on the desktop - along with the basic transaction downloads and the quotes.... - the News & Alerts are now pretty much useless - as is the Online Portfolio -

So - just checking that they have not consistently been breaking things on the desktop to the point that screens, reports, graphs, and all the other elements of the "investing" capabilities may actual still work in each newer version...

I've got no problems with 2009 here. I'm happy with it.

There's been no dumbing down.

I have used Q2002, Q2005 and Q2008 as my regular versions: there's been no dumbing down.

I own and have tested with Q2004, Q2005, Q2006, Q2007, Q2008 and Q2009: there's been no dumbing down.

Not only do I agree with Tod that you should be purchasing the current version of Quicken and verifying for yourself what no one else can verify for you; but since you are a long time user of Quicken ... you should already know that only you can decide whether a version will work for you. [To say nothing of the fact that you already monitor this group and the Quicken Forums ... where do you think all that vital information about Quicken is hiding?]

Just my two cents...

I too find Online Portfolio disappointed. Still done know why my Portfolio shows at daily $300 M loss. I should be so poor.

I don't use the news within Quicken, prefer my set-up on the web. For the investment reports, I had a bug this last weekend, but I haven't had time to trace it. The report should have returned data, but it did not.

I think for downloads you would like 2009 - the interface seems better to me then the last two upgrades. I understand VISTA is not an issue for you, but if it was you would want to go with either 2008 or 2009 as they were developed with VISTA in mind.

I don't think Quicken desktop is going to be around much longer. They want us to go web based and host and charge us a monthly fee. I do think they should get out of the annual release cycle and spend some time fixing many of the issues people in this group have discussed over the years.

I upgraded from Q2008P to Q2998D (or is that downgraded) and everything is working fine except for the aforementioned problem with a report.
