New Program Update to Quicken 2004

I used the online feature of Quicken 2004 to update prices in my investment portfolio today. For the first time in years, I noticed that Quicken started to download a program update, so I cancelled the download. I went to the appropriate Intuit web site that documents program updates for Q-2004, and Intuit says that they haven't had a program update since February 2004.

Does anyone know anything about this program update? I'm aware that they've announced that downloading price quotes for Q-2004 will end on April 30th, so that everyone will be motivated to upgrade to Quicken 2007. I'm wondering if these two events are related.

Where do you find the end of life cycle "downloading" for Quicken 2004 ?

BTW - here's the link about the end of online download support for Quicken 2004-

damm - now I'll have to upgrade to the next bloated slow 2007 version.

I am still using Quicken 2001. It works perfectly well, so why upgrade?

yeah - the direct download support - Had Quicken 2000 -> forced to Quicken 2004 Now, with Quicken 2004 direct download sunset in a couple of months, have to go to Quicken 2007 .... just for direct download support

BTW - since I'm running Quicken 2004, and just need to update to get back the direct download function, should I go to Quicken 2006 or the latest Quicken 2007 which might still have probs ?

Go with '06 as there are still numerous bugs/features in '07 that have not been fixed with r2 or r3.

I totally agree with PSJ. Still too many bugs and *features* that don't work right. I am sooooo sorry I upgraded. What a mess! Don't do it!

If you don't want real-time portfolio updating, that's fine.

Just remember that you will lose the ability to import QIF files for financial accounts (i.e. checking and credit card accounts). This also means you cannot easily transfer financial account data between computers running quicken. So if you maintain selected accounts (i.e. some checking and credit card accounts) on one machine and you normally transfer that data to another machine that contains all of your accounts (i.e. including other checking and credit card accounts and investment account) you are out of luck.

IOW, >BTW -

In my opinion after three years, Q2004 doesn't need ongoing support for downloads.

According to their notice "Discontinuing older versions of Quicken enables Intuit to focus resources on enhancing its products and providing support for more current versions, which are used by most Quicken customers.". BS. I think my Q2004 works fine as it is.

It doesn't surprise me that they need $$$$ to continue my level of support. I feel that they should put a yearly fee on the ability to keep using my current functionality. A figure of $25 per year would be reasonable. Adding small incremental updates with this charge would allow them to reduce development costs. No developers + $ = gravy money!

The major difference I see in the yearly versions is fancy reports that I couldn't care about less. The online downloads is the important feature to me. If I didn't want them I would still be on Q98.

What would be nice would be if they actually did enhance their product. Instead, Q2007 has some of the same bugs I had in Q2006 and Q2004 (downloading quotes for weekends dates, overwriting saved quotes, etc.).

same here - I just installed Q2006 on my laptop - Good idea on the "subscription service". I probably would do that... just like with the virus scanners. First year is built into the product price, then you can renew or upgrade.
