There are a few things it could be.
- The size of your Q file.
- Video card driver.
- Video settings.(color/size/refresh rate)
Those are just off the top of my head.
My QDF file is 38,800 kb. I recently ran a test on (i think it was) pit stop which among other things chkd my video driver and settings. said it was fine. not too much i can do re size of Q file. Any other thoughts? thks.
Well the size of your Q file is definatly one issue. How many years do you go back and is there a real reason to keep that many years 'live'? I keep about two years live and archive before that. If I touch that archive twice a year that's alot.
Also, I wasn't suggesting that there is something particularly wrong in general with the driver (though I can see how that could be interpreted. I'm a computer geek sorry) just that the driver itself and the quicken program don't play excatly nicely or that the settings could be lowered to give better performance for your application.
But with the 38meg file size, that'll def> My QDF file is 38,800 kb.
There has been lots of discussion here on this forum regarding file size and in general it has been determined that file size does not inherently affect anything other than the speed of producing reports. Several posters recently posted on a thread that they had file sizes in the 30Mb range. Many posters attested that there is convenience in having a great deal of historical data to plot trends and retrieve specific information that is not so useful for them if the data is archived.
I doubt that filesize would cause the screen to go black.
Do you mean that the entire *computer* screen does this or the entire Quicken *window*?
My Quicken window goes to gray during backup, but the balance of the
*computer* screen is unaffected. During the gray interval, I have a dialog box that says, "Backing up ".

I'm having the same exact problem with 2004.....largest file in my backup directory is 738K

Same here Bernie (though with 2004)....Black screen, blinking white square in top left corner and one other white square in the lower right quadrant. Only lasts a second or two and then comes back to the backup screen. Hit ok to backup and apparently it backs up the files.
