Bank of America Online Problem?

Anyone using the Bank of America online service? I know someone who can't get to his account information after the pin input page. I feel it is something the page is trying to do but was wondering if anyone had experienced this or know what it might be. He says the dial-up works fine, but the DSL behind a router does not.

Thanks, Clark

If he's running a router, is he running a firewall? At one point I had a problem with my firewall "cancelling" the OneStep update, because the firewall hadn't been configured to let that particular connection out.

Other than "not working" what's the particular/exact symptom? Is the router new? Is the DSL new? And, if he IS running a firewall, which? Is it new? Did he just upgrade Q to a new year?

Not sure this is relevant, but I could not get past BOA Login when I first tried. The page always failed to come up. I complained via webform and got this reply to tweak the MS Explorer security settings on XP. I did it and it worked. I use Comcast cable via a wireless router.

Dear David Mitton,

Thank you for your inquiry dated 6/25/05 regarding Online ID and Passcode. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced and understand your concern regarding your online access.

We suggest that your browser may need adjustments. Please verify certain settings in your browser before attempting to use Online Banking again. If you are using Internet Explorer 6.0:

  1. Click on Tools from the Menu Bar.
  2. From Tools select Internet Options.
  3. From Internet Options select the General tab key.
  4. Under the Temporary Internet Files box select the Settings button; make sure every visit to the page is the option chosen. Click Ok to close the window.
  5. Click on the Privacy Tab.
  6. Under Settings, move the slider to the Medium position.
  7. Under the Web Sites section, click Edit - a new window will appear. In the Address of Web site field, type
    formatting link
and click Allow. Please be sure not to press the enter key after typing the address, as this will default to Always Block instead of Always Allow. Click Ok to close this window.
  8. Click on the Advanced tab, not the Advanced button in the Privacy tab, to verify that the following options are checked under Security. a) Use SSL 2.0 b) Use SSL 3.0
  9. Click Apply and Ok to close the window.

After completing the above steps, close out of your browser, then launch it again and try to log on to Online Banking.

If this does not correct the problem, please provide the following information so that we may research the problem further:

  1. Whether you are attempting this transaction from work or home
  2. Your operating system
  3. Your browser and version
  4. Your modem speed.

If we may be of further assistance, please contact us again by e-mail. Thank you for choosing Bank of America.

Sincerely,

Gregory Fuller Bank of America

Thanks folks, he says he was using McAfee firewall and it was blocking the traffic. After he examined the log he came to the conclusion that he had to enable ICMP traffic for the site to work, and it does. I must assume the site is sending some type of traffic, perhaps for security verification.

Thanks for the replies, Clark
