Can't copy or archive

My current .qdf file has transactions from 1/1/2002 thru todate. If I try to either copy transactions from 1/1/2002 thru 12/31/2002 - -or - archive transactions prior to 1/1 2003 - then my computer freezes up and Quicken becomes unresponsive. Then same for 2003 and 2004 transactions. Suggestions?

Ron, We'll need a wee mite more info ...

Which version/year of Quicken? What's your operating system? What's your CPU speed?

Have you EVER been able to Archive/Copy/Start-New-Year? (or is this a recent phenomenon?) Any other unusual/undesired activity (in Quicken or any other program)?

OK, so you've got the latest release of a recent version, and more than enough power to run it (several questions were to double-check that).

That pretty much leaves a Q data corrpution issue. Have you tried Validating your Q data file (start Q, click File, File Operations, Validate)? What are the results?

Try a Year-End copy at this point. What are the results?

If the Copy failed, try Super-Validating the file (Validate first, then run same steps, holding down Control & Shift while you do so). What are the results?

Can you Year-End Copy now?

Thanks so much Dan, I got it working. The validate found an file error and corrected it but that did not solve my problem. Then I did a super validate and it didn't indicate any further problems but my problem was still unsolved.

Then I realized that these procedures took a LONG time, maybe 5 minutes which is forever on my system. Previously, as soon as the Copy or Archive started, the blue line would immediately dash across half the space and then stall forever. And when I checked Task Manager, it indicated Quicken was not responding. So I would shut it down. So, I decided to see what would happen if I Copied a file and let it run. So now I did a Copy and just waited a long, long time to see what would happen. Sure enough, it stalled like before half way thru, but if I didn't check Task Manager and was just super patient it eventually finished and worked fine. I have never seen a program respond like this before. Once Task Manger indicates it is not running, it simply is NOT running. This does not seem to be the case with Quicken. Ever heard of this before? And how could it possibly take 5 minutes to copy 5 files totaling less than 5,000 Kb. How can it take 5 minutes to validate a my current 6,000 Kb file? Each time the computer seems to complete half the tasks in less than a second and then over 5 minutes to finish?

Your thoughts and comments welcome, Regards, Ron However, I realized in doing this
