can't finish Validate on Q2014 files

Because of the garbage characters on one of my Quicken screens (see separat e topic), I decided to try validating the files. It gets thru the first ph ase very quickly and then hangs up just as quickly during the phase where i t is validating transfer transactions. It doesn't give any error messages, just stops. I don't know how to narrow down where it is having trouble in the file, and it doesn't seem to be harming my daily work, but i don't thi nk this is a good sign. Any suggestions? Not sure of the screen junk has anything to do with this either

Not sure this will help but it's easy to try. Try making a copy of the fil e then do a validate of the copy. Don

I tried that. Same problem. Thanks anyway. I had this type of problem m any years ago and was able to narrow it down somewhow, but I've long since forgotten how I did it. Possibly I copied sections of the file using date ranges to find one that would validate and one that wouldn't and then kept breaking up the one that wouldn't into progressively smaller junks until I could zero in on what kind of tranaction Quicken was barfing on. Took a LO NG time. Any other ideas? It's a very big file.. Must have 15-10 years of data in it. jo

I did that with no change. I posted this reply once and it was deleted. Po ssibly by me from my cellphone, since I'm just learning how to work with gr oup posting on the cell. Anyway, I resolved a very similar problem several years ago, but not sure exactly how. Possibly I copied sections of the fil e using date ranges until I found which ones would validate and which would n't. That allowed me to narrow down where transaction was that Quicken didn 't like. Any other suggestions are certainly invited. jo
