Validate CD Backup

Jul 09, 2005 2 Replies

I would like to validate the back up files on my CD. Error message says I can't validate and that I should contact support. I've checked using Google and can't find any info. I'm running Windows XL and Quicken 2005. Anyone with a similar problem/ Thanks, Bill

Probably means that you can't validate read-only files such as those on CD.

There is validate and validate. The processes used by Quicken should check for internal consistency (is that the right word)? Quicken in its limited wisdom, uses probably the same directory that the files to be validated are in as temporary writing space. That wouldn't work to well on a CD.

The best action would be to copy the fileset on the CD to a temporary directory on a hard drive. Set the file attributes to allow reading and writing. Then validate from within Quicken or just open the fileset and see whether the results are as expected. I figure you would want to do this on a quiet evening when nothing else is going on, so you can devote all the time necessary. Having loved ones *not* in the same room would help .
