I have Windows XP SP2. Today, tried to install TurboTax Basic 2005 (boxed CD from Target). Got error message . Uninstalled it. Checked TurboTax support site and followed their advice - install in the safe mode. Got the same error. Uninstalled. Tried another advice from TurboTax - copy files from CD to my hard drive and install in the safe mode. Got the same error message. Uninstalled again... Is there a way to install TurboTax Basic 2005?

I can't remember the problems I ran into, but I remember having troubles that I tracked down to a program that was trying to protect me from hackers (Quik-Fix Pro).
Try turning off running programs like AV, Spyware protection, firewall, etc. temporarily. My bet is that you have something running or a change made (to the registry, for example) that is preventing the software from installing...
Hank, thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I suspected something running in the background and disabled everything... No luck. The same error message... Regards, Ilya
Today, I got in touch with a TurboTax support technician and discussed this error message. At his suggestion, I installed the TurboTax despite of the error message, updated it and started a tax return. Saved it and then opened it again. Looks like everything works... Conclusion, no matter what causes this error, the program works (so far). Just wanted to let other people to know, if they are reading this post. Ilya
Good to hear. I had installation problems related to TT thinking I had no internet connection. As long as I told it to ignore the problem, it went on to complete.
