TTax CD missing file necessary for installation

I just received the TTax Premier CD from Amazon and tried to install it. I received an error message that the file "32bit\local\easystep\stepfinishexit.xml" was needed to complete the install, but it wasn't on the CD. I tried the whole install twice, with same negative result.

Intuit says "contact Amazon". No word yet from Amazon.

Any others having the same problem?

No problem here using TTax Dlx.

Search found the file on my HDD under the TTax directory - per the path you quote. Also found the same file in my TTax04 directory.

Also found the file on the TTax CD per this same path.

Now that seems to be a real nonsense and lame response from Intuit. If I have a similar install problem with software not purchased directly from a vendor, I guess I would have to call the store where purchased to get my software support. I think not. I would have asked to talk to a supervisor at Intuit.

It might be interesting, though, to hear what the "software people" at Amazon have to say :)

I think you are jumping to conclusions not supported by the info reported so far.

One possibilty: If the problem had to do with some faulty CD's being distributed, then the "solution" will have to go through the seller; regardless of who was responsible for the problem ... and that would have nothing to do with "software support".

I purchased TTAX directly from Intuit via their "Automatic Renewal" plan. I received an e-mail from them in mid-November stating that the CD was being shipped via USPS and that the expected delivery date was

7-10 business days.

3 or 4 days later, I received a second e-mail stating that Intuit had discovered an unspecified "installation error" that impacted certain PC's. Neither the error nor the type of PC was further described. The message said that a 2nd CD, clearly labeled "Revised" was being shipped.

The 2nd CD arrived 3 days after the message informing me of it. The original CD (along with the additional, bonus software) arrived 3 days after the 2nd arrived.

At this point, I believe the OP should contact Amazon, inform them that a defective product was received, and demand that they replace it.

This is a known problem, which Intuit has addressed. See the following thread in the TurboTax support forum, particularly posts #2 and #5 from a manager at Intuit. He says that if you purchased TurboTax from a retailer (not directly from Intuit), you should call Intuit at 800-440-3279 to get a replacement CD.
