Q 2007 Dlx for Vista - Unable to complete the lock process.

I tried to install it from a CD they mailed me that you had to purchase a lock key to install. The lock key (I purchased) they sent me would not activate the greyed out "Next" button to install. They sent me a standard Install CD (no lock key) needed and it installed, but when I launch the Q installed, it gives the following pop-up window with "Quicken is unable to complete the unlock process. Please use the Help Menu, select enter Unlock Code and click Continue to return to Shop Intuit and try again.". The only thing I can do is click "OK' or close the popup window. But, it comes back up if I do. I have to manually end Q manually thru the task manager. I've uninstalled Q and installed it again. Same errors. I uninstalled it using Windows Install cleanup. And re-installed it. Same error. I tied Qcleanui.exe, same error.

Anyone have the same problem and found a solution? Quicken techical help is no help, phone nor chat.

Try this:

  1. Do an install as much as is possible using the one without the lock key.

  1. Now use Control Panel/Programs and Features to delete Quicken.

  2. Start/search and find any file on your Vista drive (Drive C: on my computer) with either Quicken or Intuit in the name.

  1. Run regedit and back up your registry

  2. Run regedit, search for Intuit and delete every related key and search for Quicken and delete every related key. Be careful, go slowly and be sure you make no mistakes!

Now reboot. Quicken should be removed and you can start to install all over again.

Good luck, I had to do the above multiple times to satisfy the support people at Quicken, none of which had anything to do with my problem, I had to solve the problem by myself.

Amen to that! All they're capable of doing is either reading or emailing you bits of the help file, worthless stuff you've already tried before. Nobody there seems familiar with either Vista OR Quicken....

Just got an email I need to share to show that all tech support isn't bad.

My problem with Quicken turned out to be a conflict between Quicken Billminder and Logitech's SetPoint Software for Vista 64 that prevented Billminder from opening.

The Logitech people made several suggestions but I finally had to remove the software. Just now I received an email from Logitech support that they were rewriting the SetPoint software to eliminate conflict issues and other bugs. They also said I'm on a notification list and they'll let me know as soon as the updated software becomes available.

IMAGINE THAT! They admit there's a problem and they say they'll fix it!

It's nice to know some companies still take care of their customers, isn't it?
