Community Discussion: Entering Transaction type

Initially the original poster refers to "transaction type", but the field (column) in question is the "check #" field.

In all likelihood, the op does not have the Quicken "Data entry and QuickFill" Preference, "Complete fields using previous entries" turned on.

Later in the discussion, the op tries to correlate his non-investment account problem with check# to a perceived investment account problem entering transactions and specifying the security involved.

The investment account issue is not only not related to the non-investment account check# issue, but the alleged investment account issue is likely not an issue at all (or at least, it's not likely any error by Quicken).

The op claims that when keying the ticker symbol in the Security name field in an investment transaction, that Quicken does not fill in the security name. The op claims that Quicken just displays "all" his Quicken securities. Frankly I doubt that is true. In my experience, when a ticker is entered in the "Security name" field (and "Complete fields using previous entries" is turned on), Quicken presents a list of securities whose names contain the letters in the ticker symbol ... the user must select the desired name. If the ticker symbol starts with the letter "A" and the user just types the letter "A", all the Quicken securities containing the letter "A" will be displayed ... which could easily be (or appear to be) all the user's Quicken securities.
