The comments in that discussion do not describe what I experience.

First of all, I don't think either of the posters in that discussion understands what the default "In/Out/What's Left" widget is intending to show - which is "cash flow" (NOT income/expense).

In my Q2020 R27.20, that default "In/Out/What's Left" widget does NOT double-count credit card activity: NO credit card charges appear in that widget, only credit card payments (typically, transfers from a checking account to the credit card account, for example).

The only problem I see with the default "In/Out/What's Left" widget is that the individual bars in its bar graph are mislabeled: instead of being labeled "Income", "Expense" and "Profit/Loss", they should be labeled "Inflow", "Outflow" and "What's Left" ... just as are the headings on the chart to the right of the bar graph.

Secondly, what neither poster seems to realize is that the widget can be customized to display "Income", "Expense" and "Profit/Loss". When so customized, the credit card charges will appear as expenses in the widget ... and the credit card payments will not appear at all (once again avoiding "double counting").

To change the default "In/Out/What's Left" widget to display Income/Expense/Profit/Loss, click the small gear-wheel icon in the upper-right of the widget and put a checkmark alongside "Spending" (which will remove the checkmark from "Account Balance").

John, The "In/Out/What's Left" widget is an excellent tool for cash flow tracking and managing a budget, which I believe is the intent of the widget. However I still think that it should have the flexibility to track cash flow on the accounts that you identify, not ALL the accounts. As a Parent, I manage the Family accounts and budget in addition I managed my Children's accounts which is where the issue developed. Since the Widget tracks all cash flow (Family and Children's) I am not getting the clear picture of the Family cash flow. If we could select the accounts for tracking cash flow this would totally enhance the widget. We would be able to track the Family cash flow to see where budgeting issues my be in addition we would be able to select the Children's accounts to see where their cash flow is trending thus giving us a teaching tool for the Children and get them excited in Quicken and budgeting.

The In/Out/What's Left widget can track either cash flow or income/expense (and you can have it do both on the same Home tab). I don't believe that widget was ever intended to be used for budgeting; for that try Planning > Budgets. I also don't believe the widget was ever intended to have the degree of sophistication you desire - at least partially because there is already a way to track cash flow with the degree of customization you have mentioned.

If you want greater control over tracking cash flow, see Reports > Banking > Cash Flow. In that report, you have significant options for customization including the choice of specific accounts and category groups.

You can Save your customized cash flow report and add an icon to the Quicken Toolbar to run it.
