Settings on One Step Update

When directed to the Quicken KB article for the OL-393 error, the original poster replies, "Thanks but not helpful. The issue is that when I uncheck 'Bring my payment information up to date' and run the update, it works every time."

Apparently the op did not bother reading the KB article, which states clearly that one possible cause of OL-393 is: "The Quicken account has online bill payment activated, but it has not been signed up for at the financial institution."

"[Bringing] your payment information up to date" is a function of "online bill payment" so telling Quicken NOT to "bring my payment information up to date" stands a reasonable chance of eliminating the error ... which it is doing.

The original poster was far too quick to write off the indicated possible cause of his problem, failing to even consider looking into it. When seeking help, it's appropriate to pay close attention to the responses you get - whether from another person, or as a result of your own search (it's normally a trivial matter to find the KB article(s) for Quicken OL-nnn and CC-nnn errors).

[A further step might have been to "deactivate" the Quicken account for Online Bill Pay, then try another One Step Update/Update Now. If that OSU (or Update Now) did not get the error, that would be a very good indicator that the op needed to either sign up for billpay with his financial institution, or leave the Quicken account de-activated for online billpay.] [Later in the discussion, the op says, "In other words, the setting ["Bring my payment information up to date"] applies at that time when I uncheck the box, then [do an] update now.". Of course: that setting is a subset of the OSU settings for that specific financial institution/user-id. That setting (and the setting "Download latest cleared transactions and balances") is turned on each time an OSU (or an Update Now) is initiated. To permanently turn off "Bring my payment information up to date", you need to de-activate "Online bill payment" for the account. See above.]
