Credit card account download problems

For the last 2 months I've had trouble downloading my activity into Quicken 2011 Deluxe. Finally today by going to their website I was able to download transactions but discovered that - probably because I clicked on the wrong thing - the latest transactions were downloaded into a new Quicken Discover account.

How do I combine the 2 accounts? The original Discover account will still not download new downloads. I deactivated it and re-activated it with no help.

There may be a problem with Quicken itself because when I just created a backup it asked me if I wanted to overwrite a backup with the same name and I do not recall it asking me tha in the years I've used Quicken.

Can't help with your backup problem other than to suggest to use the option to attach date and time to the filename.

Discover had big problems for a while (last fall and this spring, IIRC). What do you have for the name of the financial institution? It should be Discover Card (again, IIRC). Try connecting with that.

Quicken imbeds the date in the backup file name. If you try you backup twice in the same day you will get that message.

Hi, Jeff.

As Porter said, Quicken tries to keep us from accidentally overwriting a file with the same name, including an earlier backup dated today. We can over-ride that setting - but I did I so long ago that I've forgotten how.

In the Olden Days, floppy (and hard) disks were so unreliable that many of us learned to Save Often! From habit, I still Backup several times a day, especially after OSU or reconciling a credit card statement or bank account. Mine is set to include the date, but I never get warned about later backups with the same date.

After looking for the setting just now (Q2012 D), I think it appears on the

+B screen, by default. Since I've turned it off, it doesn't appear for me - and I don't want to use the Edit | Preferences | Alerts option to "Reset Quicken Warnings", because that might change some other settings that I've forgotten about. If you find the right option, please post back for the benefit of others.

Solved all Discover problem and here is the solution: It seems that when you set up the online settings, Discover now requires you to enter your "User ID" in the field where Quicken requests the card or account number (before asking for the password)! When that was done all downloads went smoothy. No way to guess that....

This is a new pc and I guess I had not told Q to add the date and time as I had in my previous pc. One of the minor (but many) problems with getting everything setup properly on a new computer.

Thanks everybody.
