Quicken 2013

Anyone know anything about Quicken 2013? What's new this year? What's fixed? What's improved?

There was an ad from Amazon in my email. Preorder to safeguard your cost at ~$70. I didn't look any further, because that is way too much for subscription-ware.

Yes, I saw the same ad, which is what prompted me to ask.

By the way, according to Amazon, they don't have the CDs yet, but you can download it now.

I always wait until the ones that get the new version every year have had it and comment on it. Also, look close at what's actually changed and try to weed out the marketing hype.

Just wait for all the lemmings who just HAVE to rush out and buy the new version EVERY year. As they say, "A fool and his/her money are soon parted!" Purchasing the new version every 3 years is quite adequate for those whose goal in life is NOT to further enrich Intuit.

The last few years there have been useful additions/modifications to Q deluxe (don't ask me what they were exactly - I don't remember), so I don't regret having purchased them, after looking at the comments here about those versions.

If I where in the market for an upgrade, I'd wait a while also, and then decide whether to buy 2013, or to go for a copy of Q2012DL from a reliable seller on eBay.

Yes, that's exactly why I asked the question. I want to know what's changed and whether I want to get it. I don't automatically get the new version every year.

I've said it once, I'll say it again. Yes, maybe I'm a fool.

BUT - I do buy Q EVERY year. I don't mind 'enriching Intuit'. I think of it as doing my part in keeping Q viable as a commercially supported product (unless the way of Microsoft Money). Q is one of my 'system justifying products'.

I do NOT want to go back to the ways of spreadsheets. I want Intuit to keep Q alive and well.

Besides, I'd miss the fun of seeing other people's rants here in this NG which I've followed/contributed dare I say as long as anyone else who actively posts??)

Andrew, I'm with you in wanting to help Intuit keep Q going. I also regularly read the posts here and also when Intuit used to have a representative on Compuserve in the last century.

Good points, Andrew

I too buy Quicken each year, but try to wait until later in the year to see if a Quicken/TurboTax combo will be offered (I use TT each year for my Taxes).

Perhaps not. :-)

With religion, surely everybody is entitled to their own beliefs. Perhaps we should apply those same entitlements to Quicken users. :-)

I usually update Quicken too, whenever a new release occurs. Whereas Windows 7 OS won't be updated for a long time. ;-)

We also had a representative from Intuit years ago who frequently posted in the NG, perhaps under a pseudonym. I forget his name. I believe the amount of flamed posts I think drove him away.

Hi, Andrew.

Well said...again.

In my opinion, about $100 a year to keep both Quicken and TurboTax updated is a very reasonable price to pay for all the benefit I get from those two programs. And it's our only hope to keep Intuit alive and well so that these products will be available next year.

It's true that Quicken is now a mature product and annual editions are usually more cosmetic than substantive, but the small tweaks make the new version more usable. With TurboTax, of course, annual editions are mandatory because of new tax laws, rates, due dates, and plenty of other changes that accumulate daily and require program updates at least once a year.

I agree with supporting Intuit up to a point. And I also forget the name of the Intuit person who was so helpful on many occasions. Not sure whether the flaming, or Intuit lawyers were responsible for driving him away.

But $70/year for subscriptionware at such a mature stage? That is the question.

Well, I agree that $100/year for the 2 is OK. But the list price at Amazon for Q alone was $70 ...

There have been a bunch of replies to my message, but nobody has replied to my questions. So I'll ask again:

Anyone know anything about Quicken 2013? What's new this year? What's fixed? What's improved?

It's not out yet. Amazon takes pre-orders. Intuit is very strict with testers regarding the release of anything about a new version. You'll have to wait ...

Thanks. You're right. I thought otherwise, but checking Amazon.com again, I see that you're right.

I'm not always right, far from that, certainly on usenet. But when I first answered your original post, I did say preorder:

Hi, Andrew.

The Intuit who posted many helpful replies here was Bruce Lee. I miss him!

Pseudonym? I don't know.
