I just checked Amazon.com again. They are taking pre-orders for the package by mail. But it is available for download *now*. So I'll ask again if anyone knows anything about what's new and different in this version.

We're all waiting for you to tell us!

Personally, I always wait for Costco to release the combo pack of Quicken and TurboTax, I've found that to usually be the best price and by then I'll have read your comments on the 2013 Q changes!

Seriously, Amazon seems to have little to say except this:

Updated for 2013: New mobile app Email and text alerts More flexible budgeting And more

FREE mobile app Easily manage your money on the go. Check account balances, track your budget, enter transactions, even receive timely updates and alerts, all from wherever you happen to be. With Quicken 2013 and the Quicken mobile app, your information is synced between your computer, tablet, and smartphone.

Get email and text alerts Get automatic updates on the latest changes (for example, going over your budget) or suspicious activity in your accounts (large deposits, unusual transactions, and more). Plus, receive weekly summaries to get a quick snapshot of the latest changes to spending, account balances and budgets over the past week.

More flexible budgeting We've improved Quicken budgeting based on suggestions from customers like you. The new full-year view makes it easy to plan for monthly differences in budgets, so you stay on track for the year. Net amounts quickly show whether you are spending more or less than you make in a month. And rollovers are back, letting you apply leftover amounts to the following month.

My comment: Because of the frequency with which cell phones, tablets and laptops are stolen, I'd look upon the mobile app as VERY risky!

I haven't decided whether to buy it or not. I was hoping an answer to my question would help me decide.

Yes, I've also seen their good prices for the combo, and if I don't buy Quicken now, I might also get the combo later.

Yes, leaving aside what Amazon says, I was hoping someone here knew more, and perhaps had downloaded and tried it already.

And regarding the mobile app, I have no smart phone, so I don't want it, regardless of how risky it may be.

We're ALL waiting for the other person to buy it and report back so it boils down to who's the most patient!

Based on the information from others, I shall NOT be buying Q2013. I shall wait until I am about to lose on-line update status. My philosophy of NOT buying, buying, buying... allowed me to retire from full-time work at the age of 42. Of course, if you want to be a work slave forever, in order to buy unnecessary junk, go for it! Meanwhile, I now buy hardly any taxes because I've been able to make most of my income non-taxable.

I'll be buying the Australian Quicken 2013 when it is released and would be pleased to report back.

WHAT??? Mobile app (that's not just Mint?) that syncs smartphone, laptop/tablet and computer? This may well be a suitable replacement for my old Pocket Quicken still functioning with Q2012D. Except..... it smells of dependence on cloud computing with our data "out there".

Nonetheless, still worth looking into. Thanks for mentioning the feature. I wasn't going to look at it because I am one of the every-three-year folks - or have been up to now.

I miss Pocket Quicken! What device are you using Pocket Quicken on? Isn't it only functional on the old Windows Mobile platform (does not install on the new MS Windows Phone platform)?

functioning with Q2012D.

Old Windows Mobile platform (Samsung Blackjack II). Keeps on ticking!! Thinking of new Galaxy S3 and using Blackjack to replaace my wife's old Nokia phone. Getting too far off topic here.

BTW, looked into 2013 & mobile app and we ARE talking about cloud computing, with cash accounts (savings, checking, credit card accounts) being only ones synchronized - for now. Investment accounts presently excluded.

I see Quicken 2013 has been released by Intuit, but nothing on Turbotax yet. When does Costco normally have the combo pack available?

And, in case it's not mentioned there, here's a blurb about Q2013 budgeting from Intuit.

"Budgets are based on yearly intervals and a single budget can contain multiple years. Previously, Quicken has always used 12 month rolling budgets. There is a new annual view in which you can see budget only, actual only, balances only, or all three columns for each month and category. Past and future budgets can be edited at any time. Negative budgets are supported. Rollovers are supported on a per-category basis. Hierarchical categories are expandable/collapsible and totals are automatically rolled up. Other special items are now supported in the budget: Transfers, Savings Goals, Loan Detailed Payments, & Gross Paychecks. Better support for scheduled transactions in all views including budget reports. Better consistency between budget views and budget reports."

-------------------------------------------------------

I think the Q2013 budget can be the best Quicken's ever had. But at the moment, I think there are a couple of problems with it. Hopefully, they'll get ironed out in a patch.

When I fired up my Q 2012 D this evening, I got a popup within Q asking me to click ENTER to upgrade to Q 2013. I never recall THAT happening before!

I'm running Quicken 2012 Premier. I seldom start it, because I run my computer 24/7 and Quicken is always running, But since you said that, I just shut it down and restarted it to see what happens. I did *not* get such a message.

Thanks. the only thing there that's really of interest to me is "Find what you?re looking for, faster." But I'll wait to hear from you, or others here, how well you think that works.

And I also think I'll probably wait for the Quicken/TT combo.

If I remember correctly, TT gets released some time in December. Once it's released, Costco has the combo.

Hi, Andrew.

I got the popup, too. When I asked for details I saw nothing that interested me. Mobile access on my smart phone? I don't have - or want - a smart phone. Better budgeting? Not interested.

But then after reading that, I couldn't figure out how to get back to the main page. And then a major interruption kept me from getting back to Quicken at all for hours. Maybe tomorrow...

I did get far enough to see that I can get Q2013 for $59.95, as I recall, a $10 discount. But I couldn't figure out if the "upgrade" button would get me a better offer. What price did you see for the Deluxe upgrade? I suppose this would be for a download, with no CD.
